Thinking of buying a 2006 MCS..HELP
Hello there! I'm currently looking at buying a 2006 MCS that has just over 54kms. The clutch and breaks have been replaced due to the 1st owner (according the the current owner) didn't know how to drive stick.
Out of you all, what year is better the 2006 or the 2007? And why? Should I be looking for one that has had the timing chain replaced already? What else should I be aware of? I'm one of those females that don't have someone to do work on her car for her so for any issues it would go into a shop....Should I stay away from Coopers?

Without a doubt IMO get the 2006. 2007 is a first year model that is known to have many continuous issues.
2006 is Supercharged
2007 is Turbo
2007 is a new bigger body also.

The 2006 MCS has reaped the benefits of the end of a production run, hence four actually five years of refinement. PS--for a very good buyer's guide check out: www.motoringfile.com. Good luck on your decision.

2006 best year, by far. 2007, possibly the worst year.
1st gen Mini's are much better cars, particularly the 50-06. Engines are better, steering feel is better, easier to mod, smaller center speedo, etc.
Don't get an 07!

I had the choice between buying brand new--2006, or waiting a few months and getting a 2007. I bought the 2006, and I'm glad I did. The engine is bulletproof, as long as you take care of it, it'll last forever.
Personally, I think 2002 was the "worst" new MINI, the 2007 would be a close second though. The 2006, like everyone has said, had all the first gen bugs worked out. The 2007 has a boatload of issues they STILL haven't worked out in the 2nd gen.
That being said, the car you're looking at isn't the one I'd buy. Brakes and clutch may only be the beginning on a car someone used to learn how drive a manual (I shudder to think what the gearbox looks like, for example), not to mention you have to question how well that car was maintained overall. I'd keep looking for a good low mileage 2006, they are out there.

Still would go with the 2006. But that's just me.
Thing is, as much as I love the MINI brand, reliability just isn't their strong suit. What are you using this car for? If it's your daily driver, I'd try to go new for the warranty. If it's for fun, I'd be patient and look for a low mileage well-maintained 2006.
