What do you think? Wheel related question.

I've ordered my MINI and I'm debating about adding some 17" wheels from the accessories catalog. Now I understand that my car will come with the stock 15" wheels with all seasons as well as the wheels from the catalog. How much do you think I'll be able to sell the 15" wheels with TPMS sensors and brand new tires for? Is there a market for such a thing?

Thanks,
Al.

Less than $1k. Try and get 17s from factory. Easier to sell.

I don't like any of the factory 17" selections for the money. I think I'm just going to go with the Web Spokes from the catalog and get what I can for the 15's.

15's are not that attractive unless they are a winter set up. Couple of hundred dollars probably. Look in the NAM marketplace for examples. Good luck.

Just a quick tip!! Some drivers who compete in Autocross like the 15s as they get better wheel spin and they can mount fatter but smaller diameter tires.

Good luck on selling the 15 inch wheels. My 2011 came with 15 inch wheels and I have had them advertised to sell in the St Louis area for over 6 months and no one has contacted me on them. Hopefully, with winter approaching some one with larger performance tires will be interested in these all weather Michelin tires. I am asking 300 which includes the TPMS.

What you will find out is that TPMS alone usually sell for 150 on this site. 20008 and older Minis do not use them and I think in 2012 they change them again.

You can just keep your tires and when you find the rims and tires you want, you can have the TPMS swapped to them.

Also one other place to sell your tires is the VW Vortex site. Mini wheels will fit the 4 X100 VW wheels. I did have some interest from the VW guys on my 15 inch wheels. Also remember , VW 4X100 wheels will also fit your mini and they have a lot of them for sale.

One other piece of info, when I switched from the standard 15 inch to Mini Lite 17 inch wheels, I really noticed a decrease in performance due to the extra weight of the wheels. In fact the 15 inch wheels and tires weight 29.5 lbs and the Mini lite 17 inch wheels weight 49 lbs. Not so light after all, Since my Mini is not a "S" model, it really effected the performance and also decreased my MPG by 4 MPG. I sold them and went to 16 inch wheels and took a bath on the price just to get rid of them.

Unless you have an S or at least a manual trans in your mini, I would be careful putting 17 inch wheels on the car. They look great, see my gallery, but its like carrying around a 300 Linebacker around in the car all the time.

Thanks for the info, so you're saying that 16's are better? I'm just torn on what to do. I know larger will look better, but I really don't want to hinder performance.

I think I might be partial to the S-Winders. Don't see them in person often and I'm digging the star-look of the wheel. Would I be able to fit a 205/50 16 on it or would I be better off with the 205/55 16? My car will not have the sport suspension.

Honestly, you'd be better off buying aftermarket 17" wheels. If you're looking for performance, the factory 17" wheels are NOT the way to go. Most of the factory 17" wheels weigh around 23-25 lbs each. You can get aftermarket 17" wheels that are relatively cost effective and weigh closer 15 lbs each. That's a pretty decent performance advantage.
