02-04 jcw vs 05-06 jcw exhaust

Is there a difference between the 02-04 jcw exhaust vs 05-06 jcw exhaust? I just bought what I thought was an 06 JCW exhaust for my 06 MCS, and it turned out to be off an 04. On some websites I see that they sell 2 versions of the JCW exhaust (pre facelift and post) for r53. On a diagram of a facelift it looks like the cat and lower exhaust are 2 separate parts.. The one I bought is one solid piece.

Anyone know the difference? Hoping mine fits..

Your 04 JCW exhaust should fit on your 06 without a problem, I was unaware of any change with the JCW exhaust untill 07.

Again I say there is no difference, someone else can chime in and correct me if wrong. The straight one at the bottom comes with all the JCW exhausts its known as a rezonator pipe(helps mellow the sound out) and comes after the cat. some people cut the rezonator off and just make it straight pipe after cat. to the mufflers for a more aggressive note. They may be selling the GP setup for more money because it was a limited run of JCW's and they just can, but the exhaust is not different on the JCW untill the turbos came out in 07.

the mounting bracket locations were moved slightly.....
The main reason for the change was a crimp that was added to the face lift exhausts cause the cabrio got extra bracing....the crimp allows it to clear the brace.

So will the 04 exhaust fit my 06?

There were indeed two versions of the exhaust but they were very similar and either should work on your car.

The first had round tubing all the way back. The later had a crimp in the tube near the Y to accommodate a crossmember that was on the convertibles.

I also found that the hangers were different when I installed a later version on my 2003. Pointing in a different direction but easily fixed with Honda part 18215-SMG-E11 which is a rubber hanger that has the holes perpendicular to each other and works perfectly. Honda or Acura dealers will have them in stock.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I have a crimp in my tubing near the Y, so I must have the right facelift exhaust.
