Did anyone not call to activate Sirius and its working anyway?

On the day I picked up my car back on May14. My MA was showing me the features of the car including the H/K stereo and even showed me the ESN# and told me that I have to call them to activate it.

I didnt' bother to activate it and then a week later was playing with the radio and found that the satellite radio was working.
And just today, I got a letter from Sirius telling me that my car has Sirius and to call and activate it.

I dont' know if it's really activated 'for real' or just somehow accidentally got activated. But its been working for the past month.

Its definetly more than just a few cause I have 4 programmed in. And I've tried some other stations too that work.

Yes. I didn't call to activate and I have tons of channels.

I also got an email saying it was all set up. I'm guessing my MA/dealership had something to do with it.

My MINI arrived mid Feb and the email came late May.

OMG....my car is alive and hears what I think!

So today I turn on the stereo and go to the Satellite mode. And its all gone again!
All I see is what was there when my MA showed me the ESN#and giving the Ph# to activate it.

So I'm guessing that there was a demo period of a 2-3 weeks prior to activating it?? And now its over so thats why they sent me the letter about activating. Else I have no idea why I was getting every station for the past few weeks without actually activating the Sirius.

I thought a year of free subscription came with all the 2011 models. I'll try to remember to check to see if I'm still getting access in a couple weeks.

There's no way I'm paying for XM/Sirius anyway. Too many other (free) options to listen to.

It is a free year. I still havent' activated my free year yet.

But I still had the past 2-3 weeks of Sirius for free for some reason. Not sure if it was a mistake where someone 'flipped the switch' on mine and just discovered it and turned it back off or something crazy like that.

I've had my car since May 13th. Sirius was working when I picked it up, and still is. Gives me the phone # to call a lot. Like when I go to change channels using steering wheel control you have to push it twice. First time gives activation info, 2nd time changes channel. Kind of annoying, but as long as I'm not paying for it. I have no desire to pay for it. Can't believe how many dropouts I get. If it stops working I'll call and activate the free year though. There is another thread about some people getting lifetime activation.

I didn't call to activate mine for a little over 2 weeks, until one day it just stopped subscribing. I thought I had set stuff up at the dealer, but the lady on the phone just told me it was the dealer's trial running out. So maybe you just had a lot of time left on the "trial" (or I totally don't know what I'm talking about) lol.

When I called mine to get activated they tried 3 times to have me re-up for another year after I just started my free years worth of service.

Upselling at its' finest

Got my car on 6/13. Attempted activation 3x--talking with SIRIUS "listner care" folks on the 14th. Not working. Called again on 6/15. They took me thru several trouble shooting refreshes. Still no channels other than 184. E-mailed my MA today. No feedback. He was more resonsive prior to the sale. Go figure. Any suggestions? Nick

If it's a deal like with lexus, they pay for the first year subscription for you and then from there you have to call and set it up to work after that.

NY Quan, per my MA, he related that Sirius did a special promo for several weeks around the time you took delivery. That may explain how you were receiving Sirius feeds w/o activating. Hey, I love my JWC. Nick

Ahhh...so that's what it was. I was wondering where those 3or so weeks I had came from too.

I still havent' activated my 1year yet either and got free Sirius for right after picking up my car too. I did try calling them once, but got put on hold, so I hung up. Maybe I'll do it this week.

Um, yes, actually I did. He had been given a number to call to activate his Sirius service and told to call in order to activate it. He started receiving this service without having called that number and was wondering if anyone knew why. Did I miss anything?

My response was that some car makes, such as Lexus, will temporarily activate such a service for you, something encouraged by the XM carriers since it makes you more likely to activate it yourself when the temporary service runs out. If MINI does this or not, I don't know, but it was a possible explanation and a plausible one at that.

You want to tell me again how my post was not relevant?

When I purchased a ford 3 years ago, I got a trial of 6 months and then the service went inactive. I believe mini does the same thing, just not sure of the trial period. Most manufacturers offer a trial period

I don't think i will make the call,on my last car when the service went inactive they kept calling for me to reup and they are still calling after two or so months. I tell them each time i don't want to reup but i guess they don't understand English or something like that. Is that wrong............(i made it to first gear)
