Just took delivery of my third Mini, first was 2003 Justa only option was sport package, then 2007 S with sunroof and cold weather package. Ordered 2013 Justa Baker street edition, heated seats, sport suspension. No sunroof, no turbo, if money allows the run flat will go in the spring. The Mini's have been my favorite drives.

Someone in a shop told me most automotive fuel gauges are not linear, they're designed to be the most accuate around ~ 25% tank capacity remaining, which is at the point a driver would need to pay attention, etc.

I can drive around for days it seems before mine starts to drop off the full mark after a fill up, then it starts to drop fast.

I'm starting to hate the fact that as soon as the warranty was up, s!@t started failing, and every time something get replaced, the next "recall item" fails.....
yet I'm still going to modify the hell out've it lol

Love my 06 cabrio S, only true complaints are 1) dip stick so hard to read and 2) headlights don't shine far enough down the road.

I'd suggest getting an OBD II Bluetooth scanner with the Torque app. I got one to rule out an abs fault and ended up finding and fixing a different problem: my thermostat gasket had gone bad and was leaking coolant, making the car run hot. The useless coolant gauge on the Speedo didn't move from the center until the car was well over 100C one day. Could have cooked the engine if I didn't happen to be messing with the app at a drive through at the time. Best $30 I ever spent!

Get the Craven Gen 1 dipstick, you'll love it!

The headlights can be adjusted with a screwdriver, right? Or do you mean that they aren't bright enough?

Easy fixes, so you will love your Cabrio 100%

I mean not bright enough. Not sure I can do anything about that, other than use brights all the time.

Agreed on #1. If you have the hids, you can easily adjust. There's a thread about it somewhere in the 1st gen section. I did it and the difference was, wait for it… night and day

*edit* just saw the other response. If you have the regular lights, you should try replacing them with newer ones or maybe cleaning the lenses. Should be a world of difference. Just FYI, people that have their brights on all time **** me off at night, because it is super annoying either behind me or coming towards me

Do you have a recommendation for the blue tooth and an app for iPhone perhaps? Thanks!

i actually did a bunch of research on that specifically. sadly, if you want the Iphone to do OBD stuff, its pricey, hundreds of dollars. Why? several reasons: you have to get a WIFI OBD module instead of the BT ones. why? because you have to BUY the specialized app that reads WIFI only OBD modules. or, spend even more money on a "package" deal from only a few companies that sell the WIFI OBD module and the app together.

it would be cheaper to get your hands on a slightly older used droid, spend $13 on a BT OBD plug and only $5 on the torque app.

I couldn't face reading 51 pages so I am sure others have said the same thing but, and this is my third MINI, the thing I really hate after 2 months of ownership is the door unlock. I'm used to the doors unlocking when the engine is off so its a royal pain to double pull the door handle, get out of the car, and then have to unlock the car to get at the passenger seat.

I don't hate the fact that there aren't any gauges but it does mystify me that there isn't a single one.

But if it was built by Honda or Toyota, It wouldn't be as fun to drive. Honda and Toyotas are just plain boring and mundane.

1st gen Minis unlock when the key is pulled out the ignition. I don't know if this is true for 2nd gen MINIs, but you should be able to program it at the dealer. Also, why not hit the central unlock switch when you shut off the car?

That preference went away with the second gen, I had it set on our first gens. For the second gens, you can set it, via the on board computer, to not lock. That works for me.

I haven't read through this thread very much, and it may be a common complaint. It really isn't the MINI's fault but what I hate most about my MINI is how prone it is to being cut-off by drivers in trucks and SUVs that don't/can't see me when changing lanes. Very, very frustrating. I've learned to anticipate when this happens, so it doesn't bother me as much anymore, but man, it was bad the first few months I owned my cooper

I hate the morons in trucks/SUVs that tailgate the **** out of me because I'm in a reasonably sized car.

I hate that no matter how far away I park in the parking lot when I come back out I am ALWAYS surrounded by HUGE vehicles. I'm guessing they are liking the extra room they have parking next to a Mini. (but Geez!!!)
