What You Hate Most about Your Mini???
Don't let the dealership do that! I had my water pump replaced last year at a trusted local shop and the total was around $470. I think the pump itself only costs $200 or so. $1400 is highway robbery. Mine was leaking pretty bad....if your car is able to run for a short time try to find somewhere else to go to.
"whatever the cost it will be well worth it!!
I L@VE Molly that much!!

BUT she is under Warranty for the next 38 days!!
"Teamrubixcube (love the Screen Name BTW), Don't let the Dealership do what??!!

Molly is still under Warranty for the next 37 days now and will have whatever needs to be done at no cost to me.

That being said, if you'll read my original post I mentioned that I talked with a Certified MINI Mechanic not my Service Advisor who was also at the Event, I did not want to bother him with details at that time...it was a Sunday!! I just let him know that Molly was at MoP and he said he would get her looked at as soon as he could and try to snag a loaner for me.
It is now Monday and in 5 min. I am going to call and see what might be going on with Molly.

However, my comment about loving Molly that muchg still holds true, I haven't taken a Base Cooper from the beginning making changes to her every 6mo. for nothing. It started out with just beautification, but now that that will be done in April w/Driving Lights, I'm looking at performance mods. in the way of a Rear Sway Bar a DDM CAI and who knows what's next!!

She is going to be in my Stable for quite a while, she is and will always get the best possible care in Service and Upgrades. I've got one of the Best Service Advisors around who is also a personal friend and knows how important Molly is to me.

Having a warranty is a COMPLETELY different story! It's very refreshing seeing you so excited about your car. Keep up the enthusiasm! I currently can't wait to leave work just to drive mine home.

BTW...your estimate is way low, that may be a Thermostat R&R, but if it is the Water Pump which it very well could be, as told to me by a Certified MINI Tech, the cost would escalate to $1400!!

Thanks for the screen name compliments! I thought that you were out of warranty for some reason. I was just trying to save you some money if you had to pay full service at the dealership

RJ, thanks for the update!! Sure hope this doesn't set ya back too much!! Glad to hear your Baby will be home soon, cuz we sure know how ya feel!!!
We plan on purchasing an exted warranty, as well.

Thanks for the update RJ. Water pump is more $$$ than the thermostat but if you're still under warranty, that should help.
I don't have any warranty on mine and sometimes I feel like I'm living on borrowed time but since my thermostat leak and timing chain has been done, I've had no issues.

Well first my car had to get the water pump fixed and oil leak around the same time. Second time my car had to get a new firewall put on. Third time I had to get a new thermastat....and fourth time...in the shop as we speak. The car would sputter at cold start the past five days and it has a good battery but needs to be recharged. So we'll see what happens. I just want my car to be healthy:-/. Four times in two months is a joke. The maintenance on the car is done well and I take care of it very good. Wish me luck.
1. Get some Akebono euro pads, perfect fit, great performance & zero corrosive dust. I wish I hadn't waited so long to install them.
2. In your settings, just disable the auto-locking of the doors, then you don't have to deal with the double pull to unlock & open.
I hate that they won't bring over the diesel and that they charge ridiculous sums for what should be standard features. $250 for a cargo net !!
$250 for a flat-load floor, $250 for an armrest, it doesn't take long to add $10-20k in extras. Mostly I just hate the lack of real competition and what it lets Mini get away with.

Tell me about it, I didn't realize the rears created a bunch of dust as well until I replaced the fronts. Now my car-wash intervals are dictated by the rear wheels becoming a mess, while the fronts are still spotless. The rears are $53 on Amazon, I'm just that lazy and I might be trading it in for a Countryman soon.
Check the pricing structure for BMW's cars. They do have competition; lots of it. However, that's how they do it. I suspect that Mercedes, Audi, et al, do the same thing.
Our Countryman is a week old. Not hate, exactly, but the only thing I've found I don't like is the buttons on all the controls are awfully small.
I noticed our nice white wheels got dirty pretty fast, and some of the other messages here perhaps explained why--brake dust. Will keep an eye on that.

Agree. The placement of this bank of switches is just plain bad.
IMHO it should be move to where the CD slot is. Maybe the CD slot could go somewhere in the bottom portion or the large circular gage cluster.
I hate the brake dust with a passion, the water streaming into my open window when I use the windshield washers, and the water dripping from the hatch into the trunk after you've washed it or been rained on and you need to get in there. The power/ handling/ and the "OMG's I love your car" from hot women makes up for ALL of that though lol!!
You shouldn't have to hold the toggle for the windows to go up?? That's a dealer programming thing I think.

The two front dome lights often turn themselves on when I start the car and I need to turn them each off manually.
Front sunroof rattles.
Seatbelt chime comes on if I drive the car 15 feet in my driveway without my belt on. Then as the car is parked and the parking brake pulled, it continues to chime loud enough for my neighbors to hear it even with the car's windows up. The car has a sensor to know when the parking brake is set, so why does it continue to chime?!
Hold-button fob to open windows is nice, but twice I've had it push up against something in my pockets and roll them down remotely when I was in class, once in the rain. And of course you have to go outside to roll them back up.
Chrome rings inside '11 tail lights are hideous.
Cold rattle that makes the car sound like a 15 year old Kia.
Impossible to read dipstick.
Satellite radio will randomly delete all my presets and switch to Philadelphia traffic and weather while driving.
Door handles can be incredibly difficult to open at times, especially if you're carrying something and/or they're icy.
No temp gauge.
Wildly inaccurate speedometer.
No spare tire.
Poorly designed rear bumper supports that chirped like crazy until I fixed them.
After driving 2 miles, all the airborne pollen and dirt from the surrounding states is accumulated on my rear hatch.
After 14,000 miles, chain tensioner seals needed replaced, as did the clutch. Vanity mirror cover broke off first time it was opened.
At 22,000 miles driver's seat side bolster is splitting, clutch pedal creaks outside the car.
Front sunroof rattles.

Seriously, some of those sound like warranty issues. If parts of the car rattle, have Mini fix it.
I heard there was a recall on the MINI for the excessive airborn pollen/dirt on the back hatch of all the hardtop models. The repair window has closed for it, though. I've heard some say that you can claim it as a warranty/defect issue at certain lenient dealers.

Hoping to take a 2wk. Vacation in Sept. 2012 to AZ by way of the Grand Canyon and Sedona, if we decide to take Molly I'll definitely have them done before our trip.
I hate the way it ruined every other car for me. What am I going to do If I need something bigger? And no, the CM is not an option due to the limited boot space.
BTW, that response is tongue-in-cheek. Answer is to keep the MINI...

Man I was thinking that the other day. No matter what I get in, it just doesn't compare to my MINI. If I had to get a new car, I think I'd be absolutely bored driving it everyday. So glad I didn't settle on a Yaris like my friend. Too slow, no violence and no personality. Love my MINI!!!
BTW, what's the deal with the map lights coming on automatically every so often?? Makes me wonder if they've been on all night, or just when I unlock the car.
