Mine has a detent as well. You can move it left or right with your hand, but when it gets to the center position, it kind of "snaps" into place there. Even with a drink in the holder during aggressive corners, it won't move out of the center position unless I actually move it with my hand (or the passenger hits it with a knee.)

A spingloaded stop, like the doors have, where they hold at part and fully open.

My Clubman has a couple of cupholders set into the center consol, not at all like the photo.

Interesting.. I wish mine had a detent.. (Never even heard of that before, haha) But yeah, the cup holder in the photo is absolutely obnoxious

I hate that it just begs to be driven fast. (06 JCW cabriolet). I just got my first performance award this weekend. I asked the CHP officer nicely if he'd let me off with a warning and he said no twice. So, I figured I was going to get written up for the full infraction. (He clocked me at 80 in a 55. To my defense, it was on a wide open stretch of road with no one on the road and early in the morning out in the country.) He did cut me a break, though, and wrote me up for 60 in a 55. I guess I can't complain.

I just traded my '04 S for a '11 S yesterday. The first thing I noticed was the BIG mirrors. The outside mirrors are like big soup bowls out there. The rear view mirror looks like it came out of a school bus.

Rarely happens out here in California. They just write you up. In fact, 75 to 80 mph is common cruising speed on most of the freeways around here in the Silicon Valley. Any slower and you'll get run off the road. In my case, the road I was on was recently repaved and widened and a passing lane added and I'd not been on it in a long, long time and I just missed that it was 55. The road just looked like a faster road with no driveways, no cross streets, etc. Oh well.

Big mirrors...been there done that, lets focus on whats ahead . After a couple of days now, I'm not liking the three spoke steering wheel. This '11 is the same car but A LOT different from the '04. It's going to take some time to get use to it . Also, don't get flustered at a stop or you will end up in reverse . Done that a couple of times now . It's been fun .

Brake dust solution would be to wax your wheels, then it just runs right off with water.
true i dont like the dust as well but its a european car, anyone here own a BMW, its about the same.
(I know MINI is made by BMW)
i dont like the rear view of the cabrio, Quite small.
I got rid of the cup holder. no more drinking and driving.

I love the super huge sunroof i got! :D

I HATE the doors!!! WITH A PASSION!

I don't like how the brake, mt/at boots are all vinyl. It should all be leather/alcantara

Seating position is a bit too high. I would prefer lower down!

Gear lever is a joke! Get the JCW one before it drives you up the wall!

Other than that, I looked out the window of my school to look at it today and I think it's fantastic :D

Maybe but my wife complains about the "stopping" point of the door, she can't reach out of the car far enough to get it fully open but often goes past the 2nd one only to have the door come back and try to bruise her shins. Not an issue for me but I get complaints on home car car doors try to eat people.

Others have complained about that also. However, after about the 2nd time, stopping the door with your hand before it closes far enough causes the Light Bulb to go off...

Or as I've mentioned to my wife a few time. Push it out to the first stop, which is far enough to start climbing out of the car, and as you do open it the rest of the way. My kids have no problem with this procedure, it's taking my wife bit longer to grasp

Two things:
1.) Rattles. They drive me crazy b/c I seem to have supersonic hearing.
2.) How close people tend to park next to the mini in parking lots. Is it because its small that people aren't as careful with their parking techniques? I swear, 90% of the time I come out and some POS is parked RIGHT on the line that is supposed to DIVIDE the two spots, not invite someone over into the same one. OMG. so annoying.

here are my painpoints:
- the hatch needs to be slammed in order to close properly all the way,
- when it rains the water that is cleared from the windshield gets carried onto the side window,
- I hate the fact that the door lock doesn't release from inside with just a pull of the handle (one pull)
- engine mounts (already on my 3rd)
- stability controll cannot be disabled without losing functionality of speedo/cluster

This whole double pull thing is interesting.

There are choices.

One: dont lock the doors. If your doors auto-lock (after 6/10 of a mile of forward motion), you can have that feature disabled. I did. I dont need the car to lock the doors for me.

Two: If you must have your doors locked when you drive, theres a toggle in the center stack that opens the door locks.

There are two schools of thought about having the doors locked when driving. One is so no one from the outside can open your door and steal your car/kill you. The other is so that no one inside can open the door when the car is moving and fall out.

On some older cars Ive owned, locked doors couldnt be opened from the inside unless you pulled up the little button. On others, pulling the handle would pop the button and release the door.

So, if you dont want to double-pull or use the toggle, and dont mind riding around with the doors unlocked, then have the auto-lock disabled. If you must have your doors locked when driving, then I dont know what to tell you.

Anyone ever drive a sc300 / sc400 lexus?

I do believe those were the best hinges for a door ever. I never personally used one but I heard they stop where ever you stop the door.

It's one of those small things that makes a difference.

I agree complaining about the two pull door lock is silly. Just get used to it! It took me a day.
