General MINI TalkShared experiences, motoring minutes, and other general MINI-related discussion that applies to all MINIs, regardless of model, year or trim.
The trim pieces that come with the kit fit into the bumper grill, the ducts linked here clip to the back of the trim pieces, then your existing rear duct sections are reused.
Thank you for the info. Now do I really want to take the bumper off again.
Yep they are very very large and flat. The belly pan in GP2 version I have also, its not that big. All in all when i added all those together with the diffuser I did see MPG go up a little. Less drag. Let me know if you see any MPG change.
Not "What did I do to my MINI today", it's what i did FOR my MINI today - I got the garage organized so I can not only fit the MINI in the garage, there's room to work on it! A great rainy day project.
Paid a visit to Mario today. He pulled my ECU and is building a tune for me, woohoo! Also picked up a used set of underbody panels from Mini World in Sun Valley for a great price and installed a on/off switch for the Aeroforce gauge. Don't know how much more aerodynamic I can get, pushing 33.2mpg right now. I have the belly pan in the ECS cart just waiting for payday to get here.
I got a little carried away taking parts off my r53 JCW today. I will be adding a 17% reduced pulley from Way Motor Woks. Supercharger Service. New water pump. New metal thermostat housing and thermostat. New belt and tensioner....oil filter housing gasket....New bolt for the timing chain tensioner....dropping the sump and cleaning out pieces of plastic from the broken timing chain guides then replacing the sump gasket. I will likely spend a few hours cleaning off 18 years of oil and grime from the engine bay and parts.
Then if I am lucky I will remember how to put it all back together.
Thought I'd add a few more photos including my r56 roof gutters and roof rack. I have fishing rod holders on the roof rack as well as a longboard skateboard that I use to strap down my Maxtrax Mini recovery tracks (I go camping in my mini & it tends to get bogged easily).
I finished a bunch of work on our R52S yesterday: oil & filter change, rear turn signal and front DRL bulb replacements, swapped on the Winter tires, and tackled a P1498 error (Unmetered Air after the compressor/supercharger).
I do have a question on P1498: I found that the fitting at the end of the vacuum line that connects to the nipple off of the supercharger-to-intercooler pipe had loosened and the hose slipped off. I used 3.5mm I.D. silicone tubing to fit the vacuum line back to the nipple. HOWEVER, I cannot get P1498 to clear/erase, even though when I read the DTC with my Foxwell NT510 it reads as "1498 - no present". Using both the Foxwell and another OBD2 scanner, neither of them successfully clear the code - they error out. The Foxwell reports back with some sort of ECU communication error.
Anyone have insight into what is happening? I worry there might be another cause for the 1498 code that I have to resolve (I'm going to check the integrity of the air filter-to-throttle body hose, next, as I've read here that a break in the "weld seam" of that part could lead to this code, as well. BUT, if there was another source, then I would think that the code shouldn't show as "not present".
I had the same code pop up back when I'd installed my boost gauge. Same situation = vac leak from the line connection under the right horn. I also have the Foxwell 510 elite. I don't have my notes on hand, but if I recall, the fault code went away by itself after a couple of engine cycles/drives.

That's good to know.
It's weird that you can't just clear it and clear the warning light.
Oh, wait - Is your SES light still on on the tach?
My SES light went out but the fault code remained in the computer and finally disappeared after a drive or 2wo.
Not related - But I had a similar thing happen with a stupid 5E "steering angle implausible" fault. Nothing I tried would immediately clear the fault. It cleared by itself one day.

Yeah, the SES is still lit, though the 1498 code is read, but with a status "not present". The EML light is no longer lit, though. And I can't clear it (1498) with the diagnostic computers.
BTW, here's a video I took of the location of that nipple on the underside of the right horn of the supercharger to the intercooler. My daughter drove the Mini to work today (about 90miles roundtrip) and although the SES is still lit, she said it ran great. https://rumble.com/v5tntmh-mini-r52s...3z9pe&mc=av2lu
Yeah - it's weird how well these cars will run; even with a mystery fault code still looming around in the ecu.
Btw: I used the same blue silicone tubing running all the way to my boost gauge. I used the black version to sheath the copper tubing to my oil pressure gauge. 'Stuff is awesome
Decided to vinyl wrap the headlight washer caps instead of paying for black plastic ones. Came out pretty good.
After this past weekends mini run and finally getting to stretch her legs, I have to work on the suspension. So I took advantage of black friday deals and made the plunge. NM rear control arms, NM rear billet sway bar end links, NM rear sway bar, coilovers, belly pan and Borla exhaust.

That may be one of the ones that needs the adaptations reset in the DME to get it to clear out. I had to do that on our R53 after getting a fuel trim fault for the downstream O2 sensor.
P1498 successfully cleared with an NT510, but after some drives and after the fix

Interesting. I'll have to give that a try. I found a video about clearing adaptations on an R56 - that's about the closest I could find with something that may apply to how to perform that with my Foxwell NT510 (non-Elite). I'll give it a go and report back here.
Update: I couldn't find a path to reset adaptations with this NT510 on our R52S, but, I went through the Read Codes and then Erase Codes step again on the Engine ECU and it worked this time! I was unable to get to this point before, when I tried clearing the code right after I finished the repair of the vacuum line.
I don't know why those steps didn't work before when I tried them (and, I tried with both the NT510 and an Acton OBD2 tool).
My daughter is heading out for a drive now, and we'll see if it successfully stays cleared 🤞
Hey @khnitz , Thanks for posting the steps you took to clear the fault code with the Foxwell. I've just started rooting through all the "hidden" menu's within my 510 Elite. I was always afraid that I'd mess something up since I don't understand what some 'commands' are for/will do.
I decided to install a brand new digital gauge display and the new 2023 8.8” Infotainment system in my F56 JCW yesterday. I got everything installed and connected including a new GPS antenna and WiFi antenna used for wireless CarPlay. This is what I received when I purchased brand new components for my install.
The only additional item needing to be ordered was the GPS antenna which was not too hard to source. Once installed this is how everything looks
CarPlay activated displaying Apple’s Map app.
CarPlay with the Waze app displayed. This will be the navigation I will primarily be using in my car. The digital gauge display looks like this with errors on it because I still need to have everything coded to complete this upgrade which will be happening today
So far I love the refreshed updated display that I now have with this upgrade and soon everything will be complete. For me this will be one of my most used and favorite upgrade for my JCW
It's been 5,200 miles since my journey across the South Eastern to South Western belt-line one month ago. Time for an oil and transmission fluid change.
But yeah - Once again I'm currently in a temporary residence where working on cars is frowned upon. So what is a meandering hobo to do in these circumstances?...
Find an abandoned lot with slight decline and do what ya gotta do.
Today I performed my long overdue 3,500 mi regiment oil change. Although only exceeded by 1,700 miles, I figured since I took the trouble to drive around until I found a suitable spot to jack up the frontend - I may as well do a 10,000 mi gearbox oil change while I'm at it.
2wo hours, 4.75 qts 5w-30 (FS) and 2 qts 75w-80 (FS) later - My Mini thanked me as we took another nice long drive across the desert. Yeah - That's a whole lot of nothingness...And a whole lot of nothing but dirt!
Trans service today. I tried filling through the plug on top, but it was just glacial to get fluid in that way. I have a MightyVac hand pump filler tank with adapters, and it worked like a champ. Put all 4 quarts in, shut off the valve in the filler hose, started the car and cycled gears a few times, then disconnected and let it drain out the standpipe to the correct level. I will never futz with that PITA to access plug on top of the trans again!
Today, in celebration of the Winter Solstice, I put on the thermals and replaced the failing HPFP in the Recluse. I've been getting a half power light for a few weeks now, along with random misfires and 2BEE/2CO1. Progressively more often, so finally said that's it and did the job. Replaced the low pressure return hose while I was in there, the one that was on had been boogered up by the last person to service the pump.
Been a bit lax in posting, work and life have been more demanding lately. Recluse also got winter tires about a week or so ago, set of Hankook Winter ICeptz in standard size 195/55/16. Got a decent deal on them NOS off ebay, about $240 for the set. I have a set of 17" Hankooks which will go on in the spring with a set of new wheels to be purchased later, still mulling over what I want/am willing to spend on those.
