General MINI TalkShared experiences, motoring minutes, and other general MINI-related discussion that applies to all MINIs, regardless of model, year or trim.
Buzzes, squeaks and rattles in a Gen 1 MINI are just part of its charm. Those along with a delaminating headliner...
But even so, they truly are a charming car and all of that “disappears” once the engine is running and the twisties are in sight. Enjoy and motor on...

Of course! I might be a little obsessive :D But I want to hear more of engine, intake, exhaust, and music. And less of the others
Placed roof bars and a gigantic cargo box for this coming winter gear. It looks like a
space shuttle. Car is still in storage so dusty as hell. Will be cleaning it up in a few weeks and will be back for action this November.
Well i had fun for a past 2 day. Had to remove an replace my cylinder head on my R50. The job in not really that difficult. The hardest part was paying for the head, LOL.

Just in case I have to go that route, where did you get the replacement head?
Just a wash and dry. Then, finally added the little doodads for keeping the rubber driver's mat in place.
Starting to think about winter projects. Think the hood is coming off this winter to do body work and prep for paint in the spring. Once I spray the hood, the doors will be next on the list.
Thinking about this spray system. Comes with their top of the line gun, but will have to buy a smaller tip.
Finally finished the exhaust and both me, and the wife, are happy. All welded up and ready to go on. Ok, the tips are a little crooked, but they are recycled from an X5 circa 2016.
Thought this could be an idea for an ongoing thread and I have something to put in.
Finally installed my super charger pulley with my boyfriend! He got it for me a year ago for Valentine's day but it's been sitting in the box ever since. He took the initiative this Valentine's day to get the belt, removal tool, and spark plugs. Installation went fairly smoothe, still haven't fired her up because my battery is dead from leaving my headlights on a couple days ago (whoops). We're gunna go jump her in a few and go for a night cruise.
So... what'd you do to your mini today?
I took off the front bumper and installed the dummy fog light Louvers and
I bought him over a year ago and never got to put them on then I painted my windshield wipers they were kind of fading a bit then I put my skeleton inside and put the skeleton on the passenger seat with her leg on top of the dashboard
Did a headlight restoration as the left side already have a yellowish tint on it. Right side headlight is only 3 years old so still looks new. This is one of the most satisfying thing you can do on a car. Also restored the rear fog light on the bumper and boy I can see the insides now. Used a Meguiar's heavy duty headlight restoration kit.
This was a couple weeks ago and posted it in wrong location. Oops.
Big day! Shop air into sunroof drains!
What made it an even bigger day you ask? I’ve got the chron-pack (not that it makes a difference) and in the center large cluster somehow about a year ago, a little piece of leafish thingy was sitting behind the clear plastic lens. Like on the shelf part- mocking me every time I got in the car. This tan little piece of debris on a perfectly clean black surface. Many places I read there’s no way to get that out. Well not true! In fact it’s super easy once the center dash covers are off!! The clear lens cover just pops right off!
Ps: all week I drooled over 17” Rota RBs in silver and filled mock shopping carts of lowering suspension kits.
TLDR: cleared sunroof drains, removed a speck of dust and daydreamed.
Great info on removing the chronological lens. Dirt in the gauges would bug me too. Question on the roof drains... they were plugged and you cleared them with compressed air? Did you also secure the drain tubes to the sunroof cassette with clamps or wire ties?
I installed the rear bumper carrier today, now I have two holes for a bike rack. I also sprayed the internal cavities behind the rear panels with 3M cavity wax.
I was getting a warning light (CC ID 134) for the rear right brake light. The bottom bulb holder socket's foot was melted away and it was looking like a fork. Then I wrapped it with a copper wire a few times (a bit loose). Now it works. Let's see if it will melt itself or the board.
Also, my condenser radiator is coming apart piece by piece. It is losing its fins, starting from the bottom and climbing up. And the reasons are the small stones thrown into the ice and snow (combined with salt) in Sweden, Gothenburg, and large grill openings. Probably it will destroy itself in some time. But to extend its and the radiator's life which is behind it, I installed a grill mesh with 12mmx6mm honeycomb mesh size behind the lower grill, locked in place with 2mmx100mm zip-ties. To be able to place it on the backside, I needed to remove the upper grill and fiddle my hand in. In the end, it is still stealth. It would lower the amount of air fed in. I am monitoring the status with an OBD reader. But hey, here is quite cold anyway. If it blocks too much, I am planning to drill several tiny holes into the upper grill with a rotary tool.
