General MINI TalkShared experiences, motoring minutes, and other general MINI-related discussion that applies to all MINIs, regardless of model, year or trim.
On a first gen door panel I've seen color changes done a few ways. One is vinyl wrap, another is careful masking and painting. The third is by carefully grinding the head of the plastic rivet away to remove the trim, paint, then reassemble using small washers and screws into the "posts" left under the rivet heads.
Not sure if this will work on the second gen panels, but since you have them off you might be able to tell.
I don’t know enough about second gen door panels, but here’s a thread with pics about repainting the trim. Not sure if the door panels separate easily as shown, or if he did a combo of partial rivet grinding and masking.
After over a decade, I finally created a smart phone mount that I deem satisfactory. I utilize one of the two useless "cup holders". The best part is it utilize the dead space and no hole needs to be drilled.
I added Mini number 5 to the stable. On craigslist, I found an 06 R50 I'll most likely be using as a parts car, although she runs pretty well. She's got some CVT issues, but I drove her 100 miles today without a problem. It sounds like there's gravel in the trans, but its got plenty of pickup and power. Will be chasing this gremlin over the winter.
