Here is hoping it is something simple and/or covered by warranty?

I know this feeling...

Went to an upholstery shop to get this fixed... 40k miles ?
I have a 03 Lincoln Town car with 190k with a little wear on the seats but nothing like this
Was told there is a label on the inside of the cover warning against restitching because of the airbag

Just dropped Pepper off at Knauz Mini for CEL and limp mode... They got back to me telling me that the cam position sensor is the culprit.

I have a sneaking suspition that they are going to try and pin this on me because of the AEM intake I have on there... I only think that because they were overly inquisitive about the "AEM Engineered to outperform" license plate cover on the front and if I had done any engine mods.

This is all after I just had her in last week for a broken drivers-side vent. They had to do some reprogramming in the computer due to a faulty reading on the brakes that I just had replaced over the summer.

I'm now going on 9 days without my car at 100%... The Chevy Sonic that I have as a loaner isn't making things any better either.

That's exactly what I was going to tell them if they pull that garbage. They are trying to play it off by saying the added airflow along with the near 0 degree temps are throwing things off. I call shenanigans...

Cravenspeed Short Shift (wow!) + custom fabricated Box to cover shift linkage
Spark Plugs
Navi Screen scratch removal / new antiglare coating installed

Amazing, short shift + clutch stop, an entirely new feel. LOVE IT
Heated Seats...Fantastic!

Obviously took more than one day, but well worth it

Looking at some other forums, this has been an issue since the R56 came out around 2007 and a revised part may have been available for a number of years. Curious my 2012 did not have this revised part from the factory. Apparently some owners had to have spark plugs replaced and/or timing adjusted as well. I was told no issues with my car - car went into reduced power/safe mode to protect the engine.
Yea, its right here : Mostly very cold weather and an N14 engine issue. You have an N14 engine in the 2012 R56 JCW. Think it was for claims and fixes, not installed from factory. This is all the info I have below.

I got Pepper back this morning. Apparently the cam position sensor was telling the ECU that the cam had seized. They replaced the sensor under warranty and cleared the codes. So glad to have my car back!

On a side note, I was able to get my hands on a set of LED tail lights for $50 from a local Mini owner who isn't using them anymore.

I haven't been able to find much on the subject of faulty cam position sensors in the N18... I'm guessing it was just a fluke in mine.

Thankfully there was no real issue other than the sensor. It did however scare the crap out of me when I went into limp mode while doing 70mph on the expressway.

Today, I said Good Bye to my beloved Mini with tears running down my face.

So let me tell you about yesterday, when my MINI did a wheelie, flew through the air landed a 100 feet away, bounced and then was impaled by another car.

my mint condition 2010 Oxygen Blue was sleeping in, parked in his spot at the front of house. A 77 year old woman was driving down our residential street at excessive speeds, she dropped her iPhone and leaned over to pick it up, in the process of doing that she accelerated and veered into my parked Mini named Passeparout ( skeleton key in French). That's when the wheelie, flying Mini happened

Back to today, I was told there was well over 25,000 dollars in damage, so it has been totaled...I picked up the personalized license plates today and said my goodbyes.

I know it's JUST a car, but yet it wasn't JUST a car it was by little MINI!

If anyone can tell me how to embed a .mov. I can share the video of this that our neighbors security system caught!

I am so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what that must feel like.

Regarding the video, can you load it up on Youtube and share the link with us? I am not sure this website allows video to be uploaded given the size of the file and how many times it might be downloaded.

I guess on the bright side, at least no human was hurt, right?

Hang in there...

That's an incredible story. Thank you for sharing despite the sad fact it's gone.
I too am so sorry for such a tragic end of your MINI. Not cool!

So wait a minute... what happen to the 77 yrs old lady... I can't imagine how she would survive this.

I hope you get a replacement that will be as much joy as this last MINI!
best of luck. Greg

ps: I'd be curious to see the video as well :p. You can always upload it on Photobucket. It's just an other option...

thanks guys!
no one really understands the deep love of your Mini quite like all of you. when I tried to explain it to the insurance adjuster he looked at me like I was nuts ( of course, that is always a possibility..haha )
The driver walked away from it, she was dazed, but the fire dept cleared her. Many of us pleaded with her husband who she called to come get her to take her to her doctor in case there was something going on internally. I hope he listened to us. She just kept saying that she only reached down for a minute, but it was much longer when you watch the video. We have an appt at MiNi with one of sales reps that helped us with our original purchase of Passeportout.
Everyone on this forum was so helpful back then so I thought I would pop back in here to see what everyone was saying about the 2014 and 2015 models ....this time I'm also going to consider a Countryman S . I will figure out the youtube load this weekend and then post the link!
