Radar detector picking up the MINI? WTF?
I have a Beltronics Rx55, I used to use it all the time, I had all alerts go off supraticly but thats due to some airport equipment that xmits on the same Freq no big deal.
So here is a head scratcher... Can anyone expain why my detector would go ape ship crasy, JUST LASER BAND! when I take my car to full trottle or almost full, I have a 03 mini cooper S if I recall right it did it with my 93 rx7 too.
Operating Bands
• X-band 10.525 GHz ± 25 MHz
• K-band 24.150 GHz ± 100 MHz
• Ka-band 34.700 GHz ± 1300 MHz
• Laser 904nm, 33 MHz bandwidth
Radar Receiver / Detector Type
• Superheterodyne
• Scanning Frequency Discriminator
• Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
Laser Detection
• Quantum Limited Video Receiver
• Multiple Laser Diodes

My V-1 does the same thig? Where did you tap into for power? I thought it had to do with the Mini drive by wire.

After re-reading this and thinking about it, it's probably going off because it's picking up some radio frequency or some other emission from the electronic gas pedal in your Mini. I would fathom a guess that the other cars mentioned that cause the same issue also have electronic gas pedals too.
Throttle by wire ... vs. a physical cable connected between the go pedal and the throttle plate in the throttle body. All MINIs have throttle by wire, where the position of the go pedal is converted to electronic data that is processed by the engine computer which moves the throttle plate (or the appropriate equipment) to the correct position. There are at least two sensors (redundancy).
Funny, I wouldn't think the sensors use lasers, but perhaps they do ???
I have a V1 on my 2007 MCS and have had it give a laser warning for both sun angle and taillights. Perhaps I need a software update
Cheers,
Jeff

No lasers in the throttle/throttle pedal posistion sensors, and the bus that the car uses to communicate is pretty well shielded. I would guess more a power supply issue rather than a spurious signal that only occurs at WOT.
Could be junk on the 12v input that triggers it.
