Finally, some snow!!

So we finally got some snow here... an inch or 2, and I took full advantage!

Went to a development near me where they haven't started building houses yet, and proceeded to give e-braking into turns a shot...

What a trip!!!

A kid, maybe 16 or 17, was out there with me, ripping it up on his quad in the cul-de-sac out there. I ended up going around the streets, doing some nice little drifts (including one I slid a bit much into, and just knicked the rear left on the curb. Not even a scratch!) and then I went into the cul-de-sac as he sat in the middle of it checking something on his quad, and ended up pulling off almost all of a 180, with him in the center of it!

Best part was that he gave me "the nod" while I was in the middle of it. I motored on out of there with a double beep of the ole horn. Good times!

Who else has some fun winter-weather stories?

I also have a new found appreciation for cul-de-sacs that have an island in the middle...

You're going to get a mix of comments on this, mostly from folks who've done it and loved it (or stuffed their cars in the process), and others who'll say "take it to the track!". Just be extra safe, it's really easy to get lost in the "red mist" of driving enjoyment...

Sure is fun, though!

I'M +1 for having a good time in the snow in a safe environment like an abandoned lot or preconstruction zone. i myself had a lot of fun in a RWD car yesterday here in the suburbs north of Philly. i worry about losing the mini to an overconfident drift or slide.

If you're near Pittsburgh there's a safe environment here:
http://pittstopmini.org/content.aspx...odule_id=34016

...and you can't get in trouble when sliding is expected...

Dagnabbit! I work on Sundays! At least I have a week and a half still to see if I can swap shifts with someone. *crosses fingers*

Well, I'm glad the reaction here as been positive so far

I'm not about doing anything risky on the streets or anything like that, but empty lots and developments without houses are a different story

Whoa. This is exactly what I was looking for! I knew the VW/Audi clubs had something like this up north... I' was actually planning a weekend out with a ladyfriend that weekend... we were going to spend Saturday night in Philly, but I could totally convince her that we need to drive to Pitt instead...

How many people usually enter this event? Anyone go before? I'm definitely psyched!

How many miles is Central NJ to Pitt anyways... can't be that bad haha

Last year we had 31 drivers, about 40-45 people there, mostly Minis but some brought their winter cars too. We're shooting for 40 drivers this year. It is a BLAST! Come out Friday night or Saturday AM, stay a night or two in the 'burgh, and c'mon out and play on Sunday! BeaveRun is about mile 13 on the PA turnpike, easy access and the turnpike is a relatively easy drive. Should be about 6 hours including stops, it's been done (safely) in less. Cranberry Township is a great exit to stop at and find lodging (~exit 28, mile marker 28).

If you need recommendations on where to stay/what to do, let me know and we'll work something out. If there are enough folks from out of town, we'll even schedule an informal Mini dinner!

Hope this helps... "reply" or PM me if you need more.

LOL, glad to see you had fun. A friend of mine (who owns a MINI), who is a minister of quite a large church (for our town anyways) envited me up to his church parking lot to do donuts and drift. I ended up pulling of a 360 but it was very slick. I tried to do it on just powder and it ended up just being a 180...but still fun none-the-less

Dixon, I've got one snag here now... the lady friend. It looks like she may not be too on board with the plan, because she's worried she'll get "bored."

Lame, I know.

Are there things for the non-MINIac's to do while we rock out?

Let HER drive!

A bunch of others from the club will be there, they always hang out and eat/drink, and watching folks (ahem) "practice" in their Minis is always enjoyable. It can be quite a show! My wife came last year, had a cold and didn't drive much, still had a good time. Bring her out a day early and do "lady friend" stuff, take her shopping on the Strip, go to the Southside (Carson St.), hit Hard Rock, take a river tour, hit the museums, take the Incline - have so much fun on Saturday that she's ready to just relax and watch Minis on Sunday!

Probably about 350ish. Depending on where in Central Jersey you are, HiC.
