>>A rollcage is not required for Solo 2. However, if you are plannig on going Solo 1 you'll need a cage, external engine switch, nomex, and a fire extinguishing system. Of course, my brain is a little rusty as my brother's Solo 1 car was built back in the 80s.

Rollcage is more Solo 1 or for track use it is true. Plus much more driving school for wheel to wheel driving.

Solo 2 can be simple and just stick to H-stock or G-stock.

>>Racing seats, Quaife, coil overs and new rims and tires are not necessary for Solo 2. Just run what ya brung. When I was racing back in the day, you pretty much got your car setup wired, then you do some changes to your car to see if it made a difference.

Most times it is skill that will make the most difference. Just let any of the experienced drivers log a fast time in your car and that is the "gap" to work on. A humbling experience.

Long ago I used to think that $10,000 in mods for a MINI was quite a bit but I think I will have to rename this thread to making it the $20K upgrade club pretty soon based on some of the outrageously cool MINIs I've been seeing.
Anymore new owners for the club?
The cabrio option doesn't count for an extra $4000.
Factory installed options don't count but give you a higher base cost-
Maybe we can start a $40,000+ MINI club (total cost)- but maybe that is too low

40K MINI club not hard to do

Lets see:
2003 MCS all factory options added cost $27,500
Aerokit $2,500
R90 with performance tires $2,500
Clear light kit dealer installed $700
Factory Alarm (self install) $325
Factory driving lights (self install) $327
Brembo BBK ( self install) $2,499
Power Slot rear rotors + SS lines $500
Alpine MP3 + blitzsafe $400
Miltek header $900
Alta CAI $249
JCW $6100

Total cost not including state taxes $44,500. , if you add state taxes for the $27,500 then total MINI cost is $46,837.50

$17,000 not including the cost of Borla catback that I have sold, euro shelf, and other little odds and ends such as wheel spacers for BBK, rear sway bar, MTH software and cables.

By the time I add Quafie, coilovers and other suspension pieces it will be a $50K club.

And yes I own this free and clear so I could have spent this money any car but I chose the MINI because back in 1967 when I wanted 1275cc Cooper S I could not afford it, now I can I have no regrets.

Like an addiction...

It's more expensive than a coke addiction, but at least you have the car to drive after a wild nite in the garage bolting on mods!

Peter's Ceramic Rotors

I remember seeing the thread some time ago about Peter's ceramic rotors but I can't find a post of anybody other than Peter installing them.

Has anybody made the leap?

Wow, what a list!

Just out of curiousity -- what does your dealer say when you bring it in for service?

Other than the chassis and stearing wheel and glass, I think you've touched everything!

Ah, now I have a target to shoot for!

OOO I joined the club I think... JCW Kit, R90 wheels painted white, Kosei K1 Racing w/ kumho MX's, and a TCE front and rear BBK and I'm there.

Of course I can only have 1 set of wheels/tires on the car at a time so how is this measured? Is it money spent on mods or mods on the car at any one time?

It's money spent on total upgrades so all sets of wheels count.
Welcome. Not sure if that is a good thing or not.

Well the more time goes on the more $10,000 in upgrades seems small for a MINI. I'm not counting the $4000 more for a cabrio as an upgrade. That's part of the MSRP. I'd count the aerokit as an add on since it is not a factory item.

I wonder what might happen as more and more MINIs reach a ripe old age and get out of the warranty period. Will there be more modding? Only time will tell how nuts we can be with our MINIs.

In reference to the TCE BBK, there's some stuff on Randy's web site. It's apparently one of the few BBKs for the rear.

mods to date if you include dealer jcw

jcw tuning 5995
jcw suspension installed with bmw allignment 1300
h-sport sway bar 230
caliper stiffening kit for brakes 119
performance friction p97 race pads for track use about $300

Since I started this thread alot has happened.

We now have JCW kits, DINAN upgrades, M7 cosworth upgrades, various upgrade kits (MiniMania, Madness, Piloracing, etc) and turbo kits for the MCS that are pretty hefty. $10,000 seems like a low ceiling. I've been tempted to raise it to $20,000.

However, something can be said about being frugal and getting more for less and for staying within a budget be it $2000, $5000, or $10,000.

Perhaps I'll do a tread for those "miniacs" like myself that tend to double the price of their MINI's sticker price with all the upgrades done. I think I have a disease: mini-itis (having mini on the brain)

Mod on fellow motorers!
And thank you for your posts.
It's nice to know I'm not alone.
