How are you all calculating $10K in mods?

If a bit came from the factory, then its just part of the car (like the JCW kit in '06).

If you had it installed, you can't add the labor (IMO) because you'll never see the labor cost again.

Now ... since these cars have been out for so long, ...

WHO has broken the $20K mark????

Things are different now in that you can now order an MCS from the factory with the JCW additions, but I would still consider it a mod at least up until now. It was supplied by an aftermarket tuner (John Cooper Works Tuning) which is no different someone heading down to the local BMW/MINI dealer and getting Dinan or Schnitzer parts installed.

AFAIAC, JCW wasn't part of the car when it was new. It's been a tremendously successful package of mods, which might make it feel less unique. Regardless, it's still a different cylinder head, revised Eaton windmill, cat-back, plugs, software and and such. It might be a bit on the conservative side (to please the warranty fulfillment bean counters in Munich), but it's still a modification to me.

I'm not up to 20K, and likely won't ever get there on the 03 model, but who knows about the 06 I might order...

I bought my 2005 MCS because I DIDN'T want to go mod crazy! I previously owned two Honda Civic hatchbacks that I was constantly going broke for, and decided that it was time to get rid of them before I got married last September and decided to go back to school this January. I test drove an MCS one cool evening in March '05 with my then fiance, and decided this was the most enjoyable car I've ever been able to afford, and that I could be happy owing it completely stock, and that if I ever did perform any mods they would be simple, tasteful ones that would only add to the DRIVING EXPERIENCE, not dress it up in some fit of uniqueness. Having a MINI Cooper S, at least where I live, is unique enough.

My mods:
A-TECH 16x7", 38mm offset gunmetal wheels with 225/45-16 Hankook Ventus RS-2 tires -Roughly $800
Hella 500 Driving lamps (2) on OutMotoring brackets -Roughly $200 total
Factory Aero Grille -$88 from OutMotoring; ordered before the car came in

I need to update my sig. pic to represent these mods.

Possible future mods include a 15% pulley, cat-back exhaust, and some minor suspension pieces, along with a couple other things.

So far I'm just happy and fortunate to own this car; 17,000 miles turned over on Friday, Feb. 24 -only about 10 months old!

i don't think i can make it to the $10k club.
the only thing i do on a car is replace parts that feel lacking.

on previous j-cars i spent over $13k on parts, but the MCS needs
so little. i spent maybe $6k or so. im done. (car was $27.5k,
so only about $34k spent).

Maybe in a couple more years after I finish my Mech. Engineering degree and get a real job that doesn't involve installing car stereos!
