NEVER cross the yellow line [don't even get close to it, as the crotch rockets like to hug it]! Go slowly the first time you drive it, so you can get a feel for the road. Let the hotshots pass you [there are areas where you can safely pull off to let them by]. Watch for cops and the occasional 18-wheeler, bus or travel trailer.
As was said, go during the week, avoiding the weekends...especially FALL. Get on the website and see when other groups are going to be there, so you can plan to be there when the traffic isn't bad [unless you like congested traffic, that is].

My idea is to leave Florida on Wednesday and stopping somewhere north of Atlanta, short of the Dragon, find a place to stay, Wake up the Thursday and continue to Robbinsville. Drive a couple of runs in the morning and head back to I-75N for the rest of the trip.
If you have the time, consider also hitting the Cherohala Skyway while you're there. It's a nice road also, but the pace is more relaxed and the scenery is stunning! (You won't see any scenery on the Dragon)
If you see motorcycles coming towards you motioning wildly for you to move over stop immediately. It happened to me & w/in 5 seconds an 18 wheeler came barreling around a blind corner taking up the whole road. I woulda hit him had it not been for the bikes

The skyway is a really nice drive. Take the time to do it. There's a pizza joint in the town at the end that's pretty good as well.
Remember - the dragon is not a race track!! Have your brakes in good working order, and take your time to enjoy the road.
