The main opposition seems to be from a few farmers and retirees that feel there will be a noise and pollution problem. Hmm.
B-52's and KC-135's used to launch and recover around the clock from Castle AFB, and if you've ever seen those aircraft take off, you've seen massive air pollution, not to mention marvelous noise.

 

Looks nice. There will certainly be a lot of events capable of being held there.
