Being an exhaustaholic, I have listened to way too many exhaust sound clips over the years. I was quite disappointed in the exhaust notes from my May build '11 JCW. I listened and read of folks getting their new ('11) factory JCW's and hearing the pops and burbles leaving the dealer's lot. In my case--it didn't happen. After over 1,000 miles I began to notice a few pops/burbles but, still not as aggressive as I would like. My 05 MCS w/Magnaflow exhaust was louder and more entertaining--to me. My solution was to have the resonator removed with just over 1,200 miles. Wow! Immediately, I found what I was looking for. Louder, more aggressive and more pops/burbles--actually louder than my '05 MCS. It now sounds like a MINI on steroids. No drone at Interstate speeds. My neighbors aren't thrilled. One thing different I have noticed, when I do a cold start it takes about a mile before I begin to hear the pops/burbles. My immediate neighbors like that. This mod is not for the meek and shy.

I don't have a JCW, but I (my wife) noticed that my exhaust was louder after about 20,000 or so. The vote isn't in on Seafoam yet, but I ran some through my engine and it quieted down.

Oh, another little mod. The video reminded me of how the back end of my muffler looked crappy where the tail pipes were welded. Solution: black spray can grill paint. Just painted the back of the muffler--2 coats--not the tail pipes. Great stealth look and not the shabby, discolored welding that is quite apparent when looking at the vid. (That is also how mine looked with only 1,000 miles). Thanks for letting me share. Nick

Thats strange...that was the very first thing i noticed when the sales dude started mine up while on the showroom floor (it had 1.7 miles on the odo). From the very jump, my car made the distinct pops/burbles, especially when i come off the gas suddenly.

Is removing the resonator an easy thing to do?

That's a great idea. Will keep that mod idea on the side until my JCW arrives.

If you're sport button isn't engaged, you're not going to hear much pop/burble.

Cost me $40 bucks at a local muffler shop. They cut the resonator out--probably about 10 lbs and replaced(weld) with some straight pipe. If you don't like it the resonator can be re-welded back. So keep the resonator if you have it removed.

Had the Sport button on from the get go, well most of the time and noticed minimal difference.. Just was a quiet JCW I guess. Again, at 68 and an old Viet vet, my hearing probably isn't what it use to be. With the resonator removed, I have no problem hearing the exhaust and the P&B's.Nick

Does it throw on the Engine light?

No. The resonator is past the sensors in the cat convert.
