What is a Oil catch can?

What is the main reason for an oil catch can?

Would you install it on a 2011 JCW?

On a scale from 1 to 10 how important is this?

Thx!

It is for supercharged cars, pretty sure you don't need one.

check minimania.com but I don't think so. The catch can is to protect a supercharged intercooler interior from being coated with oil. The same may be true for a turbos intercooler but you will need to verify.

These can be installed on any car that has excessive oil circulating the PCV system. Doesn't matter whether it's NA or SC or turbo. This problem seems to be more prevalent in SC and turbo cars but can also be found in a normally aspirated engine. I run one on my NA C5 as well as my JCW. When I pulled my CAI a few weeks back for cleaning; I couldn't believe how much oil was just sitting in the bottom of the intake piping. Car is completely factory. That pushed me to purchase and install a can. I don't want all that oil going into my intake/intercooler etc.

It's pretty helpful on the turbo'd R56. There is a lot of oil/carbon buildup in these engines.

Jack$on, check this thread for updates:
* https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t-install.html

And then don't be afraid to contact BSH Speed Shop directly to answer any other questions that aren't taken care of for the N18 engine.

Does anybody know if installing a catch can void the warranty or give the dealer the excuse?

Thanks!
I picked up the BSH can yesterday from WMW. Along with $1000 of other gear to install this weekend.

If all goes well ... my JCW will never be the same.

If the part you have added is deemed to be the cause of any issue you have then yes they can warranty it. My SM has told me before it is not a bad idea to get one and he would recommend it unofficially. It would not change the warranty but this depends on your manager.

Just the basics ... it seems. Although I'm sure it will be an exciting learning experience for me.

Sway bar, springs, catch can, BOV, Craven Short Shifter, couple layers of wax .. Prima products, custom car cover, 2nd wiper delete... didn't like first one, h'm I'm sure I'm missing something?

Anyone in Charlotte that "supervisis" works for Beer?
