Window Tinting suggestions?

I gotta a guy ready to do my tints, but wanted to get some opinions.

I was planning on 20% for the front windows
15% or 18% for the back windows and the rear hatch.

For the sunroof,I was thinking of doing 5% for both, but I might do 5% in the rear and 15% for the front.

What do you all think?

Anyone do a similar setup?

Here is a pic of my Mini in case anyone was curious.

i have 20% on all back and the door windows. My windshield has 40% and i love it. I wish i would have went darker on all the other windows after getting used to it. I left my sunroof stock since it has tint already. There is a MINI on the forum that has like 5% all around and 20% on the windshield. thats crazy if you ask me

*edit, added pics

K, I like the 20% all around look.

What do you guys suggest for the sunroof? 20% front, 5% in the back?

My daughter sits back there and I don't want her baking in the sun! Or do you think 20% with the factory shade will do the trick?

Keep in mind that in FL the law says >28%.

http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/FL/

Anything darker and you risk paying tint tax to your local LEO.

Thanks for the info. I'll show this to my tint guy. He told me 20% is legal. I already had it done to my Focus years ago with no issue. I mostly think its OK if you don't really push it and go with darker than 20% as he told me that makes it look like 5% limo tint.

I also don't frequent "hang out" areas where they target "kids" with souped up vehicles in questionable areas.... My MINI is mostly just a DD for going to work and home. The wife's car is the night time and weekend errand car.

I found 20% way too dark for dark mornings or night driving, had the MINI redone. Also found rear window tint film makes funky glare over the defrost wires, will never do that again.

Go ceramic for ultimate heat reflection.

See my sig for the tint we finally like... just perfect... looks OEM and drivable in the dark.

I already have 20% on the Focus and I found that perfect for the hot South Florida Sun. I don't know where you live, but the Sun is killer down here. After I had the 20% installed, there was a HUGE difference of the amount of heat built up in the car when parked outside at work. I never had an issue driving at dusk or dark. I'm thinking the darker tint will merge well between the black body color and red top.

I went 20% all around also. I know that its not the legal limit in VA but after having three GTIs with 5% all around and never being pulled....

I like the 20% as its nice during the day and at night its very hard to see into the car. All you really see is the ambient blue, looks really cool.

Nice JCW ..I have the same color MB\CR... I'm running with 20% on all windows except the windsheild stock.... No tint on the sunroof....

It's not as hot up here in NYC... I haven't expireanced the summer with it yet... I read somewhere that the sunroofs may implode with tinting on it because of build up of heat.... not sure...

The 2011's have darker glass in the sunroof as well... with the factory sunshade pulled it seems do do a good job...

Running 20% does make it harder to see a bit in the rain and at night...

I'm running darker then my state allows..but I'm also not a kid..

Rule of thumb if I get pulled over first thing I do day or night both side windows come down all inside lights get turned on engine turned off my hands back on the wheel before the officer is out of his car...

Officer safety... I want him\them to feel safe (they don't know who their stoping)... they can look in as it's well lit, they can see my hands, and they hear the car is off and I'm not about to run.. With a nice smile, politeness, proper paper work.. I usually don't have a problem...

If that doesn't work then the volunteer EMT sheild is a big plus. ..

If you want to see pictures I just posted a link in the Tail of the Dragon posts.....I have a few in there windows up, halfway down..sunroof open/ closed... You can search by my name to....

Good luck with Your new addition.

Dave

Do you have any pics to share with your tint? I'm looking to get the exact same % on my MINI. Thanks!

I do the same thing. I have a few friends that are policemen now and they told me a long time ago. I haven't had a ticket in 17 years now.

Nice JCW, looks similar to mine except for the stripe and the red trim circling the center. I need to remind myself to take some before and after pics of the sunroof before my guy tints them.
Its hard to decide what would be a good level as both our other cars have solid screens blocking the sun. I'm moving more now towards 20% on all the windows with the thinking that the sun shade will block anything else that make it through. If it doesn't work out, the tint guy said we can always redo them at 5%.

I also tell the officer if I need to reach in to my pocket for my license or glove box so I don't freak them out. Im sure they love it when people get spastic and start reaching in to dark corners.

The cars are similar...the stripes are factory (dealer) sport stripes I then took regular red pinstriping tape and ran it down the sides of the sport strips.. really brings it out..The red around belt line was purchased from outboard motoring...I think? like $12-$13... I put both on in the winter it was really cold out..so it didn't bend as well as it should... and the pinstripes are pulling up in some spots...no biggie.. I'll do both again when the weather gets warmer here.... I also picked up a kit red stripes for the rims..again when it warms up and I can clean the rims well I'll put them on..

The sunroof like you said can always be tinted later if you need it..but the sun isnt as strong up here...
