is the burble,crackle,pop unique to JCWs? or does the S have it?

 

stock, no. by upgrading a little (sometimes just an intake), yes

 

My stock S burbles. Not sure what crackle and snap sounds like unless I'm eating Rice Krispies.

This is the best stock "burble" video I could find. Please note that the current MINI Cooper S R56 being sold in the USA/Canada has had the burble removed.

My M.A. tells me the burble is back on North American MINI's for 2011!

Are you sure about that? Mine has a nice burble to it, even before I added my intake.

 

This topic comes up about every fifteen minutes. '05-'06 R53 MINI's had the burble. It was taken away from the R56 S models, reintroduced on the '09+ factory JCW's, and is now said to be returning to S models also in 2011. Basically, it's a popping, crackling noise when you let off the gas, sometimes accompanied by a mild backfire. Whole point is to make is more "retro."

honestly, some days it sounds like a wet fart and is annoying...

 

I love it when my 2010 JCW makes the burble, popping and backfire. Especially when the engine is cold.
MY car did not do it at first, which I was not happy about. But when I hit 600 miles on the odometer it started doing it. I guess it's breaking in still.
I have almost 800 miles on it now and it sounds so sweet.

 

I stuck my GoPro on the rear bumper just above the exhaust when autocrossing. It is a good recording of the exhaust note from an '09 JCW. Engine and exhaust are stock. Suspension is not.

Yeap, That vidio is about right. love The burble,crackle,pop. Also The wrwrwrilll that leads up to it. Kind of sounds like a ripping noise.

 

all in the tuning differences... stock s with a tune or jcw package will burble
