I too am curious to know about this and any other engine mods '09 factory jcw owners are experimenting with. I know there have to be more of you out there. Let's get some feedback.

So far I've done the Alta Boost tubes, FMIC, and crank pulley upgrade. Looking to do the Turbo inlet hose (Wasn't available when I did the previous upgrades) and the M7 Super AGS next time I'm in the area. (And the CDN $ gets back up to parity)
I visited ALTA last year and had them order the Super AGS, but the '09 had a design change, so Peter from M7 needed to make some revisions. (Mine is still available in the 'scratch and dent" section of the website for anyone with an 07 or 08.) I realize the Alta intake is a good performer, but I think it's a little too "rice" for the MINI. The Super AGS, especially in matte black, almost looks OEM.

I also want to know! I posted on another thread between the ALTA, M7 Super AGS, DDMWorks. The DDM one has a scoop that is bolted under the hood and directs all the air right above the air filter. You can then use any CAI (ALTA's or M7's) or DDM's, and they (DDM) have 2 versions. A regular one, and one that seals and forces all air into the airbox they call it RIS (ram air scoop) and the PFB (presurized filter box). Someone pointed out that the RIS could "catch" water and that might be a problem (which in retrospect seem very obious, but still not sure). I would also like to get some opinions!!

Here are links to the DDM site just in case people have not seen them.

PFB http://www.ddmworks.com/mini/cooper_...ngine/pfb.html
RIS http://www.ddmworks.com/mini/cooper_...ngine/ras.html
PFB and RIS working together http://www.ddmworks.com/mini/cooper_...ngine/ris.html
DDmWorks regular intake http://www.ddmworks.com/mini/cooper_...et_intake.html

I think most people have seen the ALTA and the M7, if not let me know to post some kinks...

I plan to do the Alta intercooler before any airbox mod. Much cooler air equals much more power! Then probably the M7 intake and possibly their vortex hood scoop in carbon fiber.

I hear ya, plus 20WHP is a sweet deal.... however for my application it's a bit expensive.... Basically I like a bit more sound (I have currently on my civic an AEM CAI) and a bit more throttle response is icing on the cake. I don’t think that for my needs I need to spend 800 or so for the intercooler. Maybe in my case the air diverter seems more than sufficient, if I decide to do it. I like the looks of the M7, but someone posted here on the forums that if it’s (any CAI) to exposed and/or out of the air box then it's benefits are minimized because of its exposure to heat. There are some filters that have rubber or even metal open housings that seem to block out heat somewhat. That is basically my main concern with M7's version... I could pair that with the RIS if people feel there is no risk of water intrusion...

Here is a pic of mine. This mod was the most noticeable thus far. I sprung for the gel insert which I would highly suggest to everyone. That heat shield gets really hot!

Hey herman that is actually the AGS-R not the Super AGS, but it looks awesome... With the "things" poped out, it sounds more or less? You have like almost any bolt on there is... how's is it? Any numbers?

Whoops I guess I should pay attention huh! I actually have only one plug popped out now. Someone had some dyno numbers that showed that having the 2 ports closest to the air inlet plugged gave the best numbers. As far as sound you can hear the woosh a little better, but it wasn't enough for me so I ordered a Alta B.O.V. last night. As far as numbers go I have no idea, but she pulls really hard. Hope to get it on a dyno this spring. With any luck Alta or somebody will have a software upgrade by then. I say go for the Super AGS though. I love that air filter they put on there.

What's a BOV, sorry still not up to date with all the acronims.. Yesterday I test drived' a JCW hardtop and it was awesome I can't imagine with the added HP and torque!!

I was planning on a JCW hardtop but the dealer is giving me a sweet deal on a inventory JCW clubman, and after a good look I think the extra room will become handy. Not sure yet if I wanna "let go" of the idea of having the JCW aero kit, wing and suspension among other things. If I had some sort of confirmation if there is gonna be a clubbie version of thease items my decision will be so much easier...LOL

Sorry for going of topic tho!!

Please be honest. Is there a truly noticeable gain in power with those mods, or is it just the placebo effect involved here? In other words, are you getting to 60 in something perceptively less than 6.2 seconds?

that's what I thought, I just wasn't sure. I thought the r56 and r55 had the b.o.v.s' although I'm sure a aftermarket is better...

I can honestly say there is a very noticeable gain in performance and the 0-60 times. It's quick stock but after a few mods she screams! I don't have any numbers yet. It's still pretty cold here with crap load of sand and de-icer on the road. It wasn't a huge gain when I did the first mod. You could feel the difference but nothing huge. I think it is the combination of all the mods together thus far that has made the huge difference. My intake was one of the last performance mods I've done so far and it was at that point when everyone who drove it had the same "holy crap" reaction from stock to now. I always have my buddies take it out after a mod to see if their opinoins jive with mine.
