Rear view mirror removal?

Hi all, this is my first post. Bought a 09 JCW about a month ago, love it, have wanted a Cooper for years and just got hooked up with a rocket!

Anyway, the only complaint I have is the rear view mirror, it annoys me, destroys my field of vision. I've removed every mirror on every car I've owned, now, I'm leasing!

I'm fine with the side views, and who are we kidding, what happens behind me is the past, I don't need to see the bird as I fly by people.

That said, How does one go about removing the rear view mirror? I cannot find screws, fasteners, etc... I have a stock mirror, no auto diming, home link, etc.. Thanks!

The rear vie mirror simply 'twists' off. Rotate the base 90 deg. ( cant remember which direction. Then unhook the wire connector.

Unfortunately you'll have a big problem..............the remote door locking sensor is in the mirror. So you'll have to cut the mirror casing to bits and locate the sensor somewhere.

Other option maybe to get hold of an 2003 R53 model year mirror. These were smaller, but i'm not sure if they connected up the same.

I'm sure there's previous threads on this very subject.

Hmmm...sounds like I should just deal with it, "you'll have to cut the mirror casing to bits" does not sound like a good idea for a lease.

Hm, I couldn't deal with having no rearview mirror, but I could sure go for something less bulky. Hmm....

I agree wholeheartedly, the rearview mirror is my biggest complaint. I too have a leased vehicle, and everything I have modified or not is with that in mind. Take it out intact and unlock the door the old fashioned way, with the key. I live in the mountains, and while driving the twisties every day is fun in the MINI, you end up bending down, moving left and right to see what you might be meeting around the bend. The stock mirror is just plain UNSAFE. Somebody tell BMW engineers, please.

I feel the same way. I have the 09 MCS and I do find myself trying to look around the mirror some times. I wish it was higher up or something or even go old school and mount it on the dash.

Bumping this thread because I got really annoyed at my giant mirror this morning and would love a smaller one!
