Ordered my JCW Hardtop today!
Got it at Princeton MINI about 60 miles north of my house.
Thanks to all of the members here who provided lots of useful info that helped with my decision, especially SmokeM for letting me drive his car and Motor Head for the Chrome Line interior, rear fog lamp and coco mats suggestions.
I have a production number already and my salesman said i should have the car in 6 weeks.
Final configuration:
- JCW Hardtop
- dark silver / black
- black bonnet stripes
- 17" Challenge wheels
- Sports suspension (i caved in on this one - long boring story)
- Multi function steering wheel (apparently the JCW wheel can't be had in the multifunction and cruise control is a must for long trips)
- alarm system
- comfort access system - i just think this one's cool
- chrome line interior
- rear fog lamp
- white turn signals
Price: exactly 32k
a few extra bucks on the following dealer items:
- rubber mat for boot
- mud flaps (ouch - $200 with installation)
- wheel locks
- valve stems
from http://www.cocomat.com/style.htm i got the black with gray dot coco mats ($214.00 with shipping) - incidentally after Motor Head pointed me to this site i poked around at a few other coco mat sites and i think these are the best.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes!
on the sports suspension...
- drove SmokeM's car with stock suspension - seemed perfect
- drove dealer's car with factory sports suspension - seemed perfect too
- i didn't push either car hard enough to really tell the difference
- so why did is get the factory sports suspension -here are my subjective reasons:
- JCW suspension is too much money and more that i'll ever need, especially since i probably won't track or autox, was afraid the ride would be too stiff
- also, on the JCW sports suspension, i'm not crazy about dealer installations - i'd rather have it done at the factory
- factory suspension is $500 which i "saved" half of by switching out steering wheels - so it seemed "cheap" at $250.
- i just feel better buying parts that were designed and built for the car - i know you guys who do your own mods with aftermarket parts will disagree but that's cool (i said it was subjective... and perhaps uneducated)
- so it just felt good to say, that for $250 (remember the saved money above) that i have a little more support in the cornering
Hang in there Wiseguy - 5-6 weeks wait seems short - i waited almost 4 months for my Boxster in '01 - that was agonizing.
Funny, back then i remember a post on the Boxster board about what would be your second car (other than the Porsche) and i said a MINI even back then this car had won my heart. I have a picture from the same year with my wife sitting in one at the Philadelphia Auto Show... it was destiny!

Congrats I think! I've been waiting for my DS w/ black top for over 8 weeks now. I go pick it up the 25th. I have never waited this long for a car and I have to say it is painful. I cruise the internet looking for various pics and accessories almost every night. Congrats again and happy day dreaming!

Man, Herman da German i know what you mean. I found a great interior pic and have it as my desktop - my wife says that i'm going to have the car memorized before i get it - she's right...
diablito - Here's the pic from the auto show - actually it was from 2003 not 2001 - i'm also in the car in the passenger's side - looks like my exterior color combo too!

I'd just like to point out that you CAN get the JCW wheel with the Multifunction despite what the configurator says. You just have to install it after you get the car, the side spoke inserts are the same size on both wheels, you just wont have CF on the side spokes. Although if you email this guy roguemotorsports@gmail.com he might be able to do a CF overlay on the MF side spokes.
