Folding mirrors and rear fog light

Hi Everyone,
My 2019 convertible is one week old . I am really enjoying it even more than the “15 Countryman that I traded in. Does anyone know how to set the folding mirrors to automatically close when the engine in turned off? Also, How can I add a switch to turn on the rear fog light that seems to be there with a bulb in it? Thanks, all.

The mirrors only power fold if you have the cold weather package, ie: heated seats, mirrors, and power fold function. The settings for that are adjustable in the settings via the infotainment screen. If your car has the rear fog light option, there will be a button to turn it on to the left of the steering wheel under the headlight controls. If the car does not have that option, then the button will just be a blank. The light that is there is a reflector if you don't have the fog lights I believe. You could have the fog lights added by the dealer probably if you wanted to, but it would probably be expensive.

I don't have a GEN3 ... altho daughter just bought a 19 Cooper 'vert and I've skimmed thru the owner's manual for hers .....

Our 15 R-59 has folding mirrors but they can't be set to fold automatic by the owner ... MAYBE thru one of the fancy dealer like computer reprogramming systems. (it is Mrs car and after I showed her how to fold 'em I'm 99.9% sure they have NEVER been folded!)

Similarly the rear fog light option has been an issue since 2002! The rear fogs in GEN1 and 2 are controlled by the 'central computer' (Hello HAL) and not a simple switch and I'd guess this hasn't changed in GEN3. In 1 and 2 the 'switch' just sent a signal to the computer to tell it to turn the lights on ......

You COULD wire up a complete new switch to turn the rear fog on and off after severing it from the rest of the control systems ..... not what I think you were looking for.

On the pre facelift cars, the fog lights are already wired and all hardware is present. All you need is the correct headlight switch and code it with Bimmercode. All the switches use the same two wire connection, so unless they've changed everything it's a very simple job.
The folding mirrors can also be coded...... If the car has the folding mirror option. I believe it's included in one of the packages now, since we owner/drivers aren't smart enough to pick and choose our own options.

A good place to start would be the FAQ section for the 3rd Gen cars. There have also been several threads concerning the rear foglight question that list the correct switch part numbers too. It can also be found on realoem.com

The "Search" function is your friend.

I can confirm that the 2019 cars also have the rear fog light wiring and bulbs installed. It is not an option you can buy anymore.

You can change out the headlight switch for one with a rear fog light button and code the new switch to the rear fog lights.

No way to automatically fold your mirrors but if you press and hold your lock button on your key fob near your car the mirrors will fold and then unfold when you unlock it using the key fob. I discovered that when using the key fob to lower and later raise the top.

Thanks. I did try holding the lock button on the fob and the mirrors did fold in. I also discovered that if you hold the button on the outside door handle, they will also close after locking. They will then unfold when unlocking.
