First, purchase the version of the light switch for your car that includes the rear fog switch and fit it.

Then, the following coding is required to make them work,

1) add option 5AA rear fogs to the VO (vehicle order)

then in the BDC, code the following :-

2) 3068, NSL_Verbaut = Verbaut

(This enables the BDC to sense the switch, if you just code this and try the lights, it just activates the symbol on the instrument cluster but does nothing else)

3)

3064 Mapping_Nebelschlussl_L_output = nsl_l
3064 Mapping_Nebelschlussl_L_Function = nebelschlusslicht
3064 Mapping_Nebelschlussl_R_output = nsl_r
3064 Mapping_Nebelschlussl_R_Function = nebelschlusslicht

These options enable the correct outputs on the BDC to activate the lights. ....
Do you think adding the VO and coding without buying the actual switch can enable the rear fog light as DRL light?
What about F56 with just one foglight in the center? Would it be just one of the L or R in the coding?

edit:
I looked in BDC part of the coding, I don't think it can be mapped to DRL function. But maybe it'll work as Welcome Light. I'll have to try it out.

There's a typo in your code. Also, "Mapping_Nebelschlussl_L_Function" already had "nebelschlusslicht" as default value in mine.

Does adding the VO without adding the switch throws an error code?

So has anyone done this purchased the $100 switch, coded and succeeded? I have a 14' Cooper S and I have the rear fogs and bulbs! so weird.

Still on my bucket list but all you need is the switch and a quick code update and they will work. Discussed it at length here and with my dealer.

I'm just glad it's there (albeit non-functional). Looks better than the black hatched plastic insert they used to use on previous MINIs.

I just wanted to mention I followed the esys directions after purchasing the RFL headlight switch and was successful in coding the option into the vehicle.... Also coded in komfort access too, but the big win was RFL

Thanks again

So this was a drop solution, just buy the switch and code?

No addt'l parts?

I am bumping this again, so Add the switch, get the car coded and you have functioning Rear Fogs?

I, as well, am curious about this process. I just purchased the new control switch from my local mini dealer and it should be in by this coming weds. I have e-sys already up and running, however I'm a bit confused about this "add 5aa to the VO". I'm a newbie to this coding stuff, though I was able to go thru and program foldable side mirrors and fogs on with parking lamps, so I'm hoping someone in simple terms can explain it to me.

Thanks!

So now that we know it's relatively inexpensive to retrofit the rear fogs, is there any way to retrofit the front fogs?

Over $100 for a stupid switch is expensive, isn't it?

Front fogs are going to be way more expensive because you'll need to buy even more. Pretty sure it's doable though.

Well $100 is what it costs to order the car with the rear fogs anyway, so $112 isn't super unreasonable to do it after the fact.

Compare it to something like retrofitting the factory HIDs which basically triple in cost...

I'm looking at purchasing the new retrofit OEM DRL LED foglights from MINI.

So looking at:

-New Light Switch Module
-New Front Fog lights
-Updated coding

What else would I need for the retrofit?

Possibly a new control module inside of the car for the lights as they are quite different than the normal lights. The heat sinks alone take up the whole rear of the lights and the lights are sealed up with only the main bus connector going into the light.

You're talking about the fog lamps? I've already got the LED headlamps.

I imagine that when you buy the DRL fog light retrofit kit, they provide any needed ballasts or whatnot.

Not so much ballasts but the control modules to make them work inside the car's control panel.

Anyone have the part number for the switch? I already have the front LED fogs and just want to add the RFL.

Should be 61319301806 if you have auto headlights (which all US-spec 2015 F56s do), according to RealOEM.com

Thanks for the part#. Found it for anywhere from $115 to $147. So, all I need is this and to have the coding done?

I've been searching previous posts for the steps to install the new light switch, but I didn't find any info...
Guessing the lower dash trim has to be removed? If yes, can anyone list the best way to do it?

For any 2016 MINI up until this month's production, yes. Looks like the part numbers changed for November production going forward, but I'm not sure what the difference is. No reason to think it wouldn't be compatible though.

Just got my rear fogs done. 2016 July production F55 Justa.

Easy coding
Easy switch installation (99% by hand)
Total: 15 minutes

So magical to see a light bulb that had been there the whole time just light up after you press the switch!

Thanks to this forum and to ECS tuning.
