Non-S Cooper: Rear fog light as additional brake light

I've searched the forum and see quite a lot of discussion about coding the Cooper S dual fog lights as additional brake lights. The coding that's been shared appears to activate the the left and right sides individually. Has anyone used Bimmercode to do the same with the single fog light on a Cooper?

Try asking Bimmercode support. Once I sent them an email and received response.

I JUST did this on my single fog light F56. Worked perfect. Make sure your ignition is on but engine off through the entire process. Here’s exactly what I saw as my options.

Go to Body Control Module and enter expert mode

LCE Master

NSL_Verbaut = Verbaut

LCELampMapping3

Mapping_Nebelschlussl_L_output = nsl_l

Mapping_Nebelschlussl_R_output = nsl_r

LCE Configuration

LCE_bel_lin_var

Bel_flc_nsw_nsl

go back to the main screen and hit ‘code’

the ecu will reset and I received a whole slough of light malfunctions. I turned the ignition off for five seconds then back on and everything works perfect. Hope this helps!

Interesting, so you’re still coding the left and right rear fogs, it just outputs in one place (obviously, since the Cooper only has one rear fog).

Yes and that’s what made me nervous! I did some ‘exploring’ and didn’t see the option for a single lamp activation so figured it’s all the same and luckily I was right! Still no errors or issues so seems to be the way to go!

Did you skip this one required step about cycling the ignition before continuing onto the LCELampMapping3 step ?

Activate Rear Fog Lights:
3068 NSL_Verbaut = Verbaut

Code first, then cycle ignition, then restart Bimmercode
And yes, even though we have only one rear fog lamp, we have to activate both the left and the right in Bimmercode.

Walt:
Do you:
1) complete the activation step, then code and cycle the ignition, and the go back into Bimmercode to complete the rest of the steps and code/cycle a second time
or
2) Add your activation step as the new first step, complete all the other listed activation steps, and then code/cycle?

  1. Of course. I cycled between the first and second steps. I am not an expert so I followed the instructions exactly.
  2. Not too sure what you mean. I did the first step, cycled, then continued thru the remaining steps given in the Bimmercode thread here. I did turn my MINI back off at the end, since I was done.
