I've been closely following all the threads about enabling the rear fog lamp on MINI's in the US. Now that Jack Pitney from MINIUSA has said that "all U.S. MINIs, new and used, will get rear fog lamps", I was wondering if anyone has spoken to Sean at Downtown MINI about enabling their rear fog lamp? If so, what was his response?

As an aside, the real value of that safety feature was made clear to me while driving on the turnpike to Ft. Lauderdale in one of our patented Florida downpours last weekend... If the Mercedes in front of hadn't have had a rear fog light, I might not be here right now. They work.

 

I did the rear fog light brake mod on my car and at least 25+ cars of my MINI friends. I know that I will keep it as a break light vs. the fog light. The extra light back there is IMO much better than a light controled by a switch.

I may look into doing the brake light mod with a diode (?) AFTER having the rear fog lamp kit installed, so that I can get both brighter (and larger) brake lights AND the added safety of a rear fog lamp controlled by a switch.


Judging by the lack of response to my question, I guess I'll be the first person to ask Sean about it. I'll post his answer when I get it.

I just got off the phone with Sean. When I asked him if he'd heard about the rear foglamp retrofit, his response was, "I haven't heard squat! I've had several people mention it, but I'm usually the last to find out." Not very promising, but I'll be stopping by Downtown MINI on Tuesday and I'll try to find out more.
