Thanks to Ndal for the coding work. Everything seems to be working perfectly.

Fahrenheit, miles, 12-hour clock...are you in the U.S.? Where’d you source the cluster from?

Looks great. Do you have the part number for the JCW version you installed and where you bought it? Also - did Ndal code you car remotely? Just wondering if this will be an easy addition to my 2016 JCW (July 2015 build) with heads up display and the big Nav setup. Thanks

Hi there,

I read that the car needs to be build in 2015 or higher to do this retrofit. Why is that?
i have a 2014 F56 with HUD and HU_NBT why should it not work on mine?

I would like to do this retrofit but only if it will work on a 2014 mini.

Greats!

I read it has to be an LCI, which would make it a 2018 or newer. I would certainly like to hear that limitation is wrong.

I installed it on a 2017 JCW F56 (thus pre-LCI) car. I know of successful installations on a 2016 Clubman and a 2014 F54 Cooper S.

I’d recommend contacting the user on this forum named ndal for questions about whether it will work on your car - he has worked on at least 3 or 4 of these with complete success.

Contacted them and they said that they weren't supporting left hand drive MINI's yet, and we would have to order the part locally from our BMW/MIni dealer.

Would also love to know where they got the cluster from, I can't find any dealer out here in Socal that can get the part yet. Being my JCW was built April 19' and has all the options, it should just be a drop in for me.

So, one does not need the touch-screen Nav system, that was introduced with the LCI F5x?

Sorry, but the conflicting info I am reading is getting me confused.

Does anyone know if this has been successfully installed on a car with the basic radio? Mine is a 2015, with the basic four line monochrome display, although it does have the Harman/Kardon audio system.

No it can’t be done with basic radio. It can’t be done in any unit that doesn’t have MOST present. And for the people who want to do it in an LCI car make sure your unit has MOST. Not all entrynav2 have It.

Someone was asking about what the back side of the Dynamic Digital Cluster looks like. I’m at my dealer now for service and they have a few cars with the new cluster out front. Not the greatest pic because the car is locked, but here it is.

Maybe I am not asking my question with quite the right terms.

Do pre-LCI models, those with the now-older non-touch 8.8" NAV screen, have this thing called "MOST" ? Never? Sometimes (like those with the heads-up display too)? Always?

Getting really frustrated trying to find someone that can sell the cluster, everywhere I try to order from even locally says it's backstocked, or discontinued part #. Where are you peeps getting the cluster from?

@Walt those with hud definately have MOST. NBT evos ID4,ID5 have. NBT have. Entrynavs some have some dont, So before ppl order the cluster should remove the screen and check.
@bluonyx EU mostly

I've got the cluster on order, and I hopefully, I'll be able to contact you to see if we can get the coding completed. My question - I only have a work laptop that I can't put any software on. I'll need to get a laptop and other parts for remote coding. Can you tell me what you prefer for this type of operation? I already confirmed with sb2002 that my July 2015 build / model year 2016 with 8.8 NAV and HUD will work. Thanks

Succes on a F56

Good evening folks!

I just wanted to mention that I installed the new 6WB cluster myself. I also did the coding myself.
I have done this in a Mini S F56. 2015 but with i-Step 1114. It is equipped with a HUD and a HU_NBT. The MOST cable was present in my case. So I don't have a HU_NBTEvo and I don't miss anything exciting. After physically installing the new cluster, coding was fairly simple. I haven't really run into any problems.

The only thing I failed to do is get the JCW logo in the screen. It seems that with ESYS you cannot do this and you need a program esysx, but that costs around 120 euros. I thought that was a bit much for a logo ..

Oh yes, for the people who use the Bimmercode app. After you have done this or had it done, the Bimmercode app will not find your new KOMBI, so no KOMBI will be displayed in your overview.

For example, if you have programmed the JCW Ref display in your HUD, you will not be able to do this again via the Bimmercode app. You have to do this via Esys, but I have not yet figured out how.

Well, if you have any questions, let me know.

Special thanks "sambir" help me to FDL code some items on Kombi and help me to buy this cluster.

Hey Pillpusher

Perhaps I missed it, but were there any further updates?
Also, where did you get your NBT EVO 8.8 unit? Cost? Looking to upgrade from 6.6

Thx,

H

Literally just finally received my GP3 KOMBI via FedEx about a 1/2 hour ago. Threw the unit into the vehicle and i'm working on coding it now, but looks like it need to get some different psdzdata files, as the unit has a CAFD_FFFFFFFF_255_255_255 in the ECU tree, and rolling back to an older version that support inject CAFD for SWE is missing swfl 0000668e_002_002_002. I'll post an update once I get things sorted out.

All done

Worked as expected. I just needed to update my ESYS and psdzdata configuration. I was previously told that "Detect CAFD for SWE" function only worked with ESYS 3.27.1 and psdzdata 4.17.20. This is correct for that version of ESYS, however since we need the updated CAFDs and SWFLs for this GP3 KOMBI, I was successful in using ESYS 3.33.4 and psdzdata lite 4.24.31.

Steps for coding are as follows:

1. uninstall old kombi
2. install new kombi
3. Fire up ESYS 3.33.4 paired with psdzdata lite 4.24.31 in Expert --> Coding mode
4. Connect for F56 Project via Gateway connection
5. Read FA
6. Save FA
7. Edit FA
8. Change Zeitkriterium=0320
9. Edit SALAPA-Element
10. Add 6WB in appropriate alpha-numeric order to existing codes
11. Right-Click on FA at top of tree and click Calculate FP
12. Hit Save Icon
13. Hit Back Icon
14. Anser "Yes" to popup window asing to reload the file in module Coding
15. Right-Click FA and click Activate
16. Read ECU
17. Find "KOMBI" in ECU tree, left-click on it 1x
18. Hit Detect CAFD for SWE button
19. Click the CAFD under the ISTEP that matches the iSTEP of your vehicle
20. Back to ECU tree --> Left-Click on KOMBI ECU
21. Click CODE button, wait for completion and success message
22. Close ESYS
23. Fire-Up ESYS (with ESYS launcher if you haven't used this originally to start ESYS)
24. Perform FDL coding as necessary on your HU to ensure that the following are set as below:
KOMBI_CIC: set to kombi high
EXTERNER_MOST: set to aktiv
25. Enjoy your new GP3 Digital KOMBI

Everything is working as expected on my 2015 (11/2014 build date) F55 Cooper S 4-door Hardtop with NBT EVO retrofit. GP3 6WB KOMBI works perfectly fine on pre-LCI F55 models as this was a previous question in the thread above. Ignore the red triangle in the image ... i have hood open as the car is on a battery tender in the garage all the time as we don't drive it often.

thanks! Beside changing the digital screen, did you have to change or add another unit to it so it can work? Beside the programming?

no additional hardware was needed for my install of the 6WB Digital KOMBI in my case. You need to have a MOST connection from the headunit (this is present already if you have HUD, and need a digital screen-based headunit (ENTRY, ENTRYNAV, NBT or NBT2 EVO). My understanding is that this will NOT work with the Base non-display stereo

So, I was starting to install my new digital KOMBI. I can get the middle connector off very easily. The other two - not so much. I don't want to break them, so I thought I check and see what the trick is to get the blue one and the one with many different colors wires in it out. The middle one is green and just unplugs like a phone jack.

Thanks
