2019 Hardtop Disabling Rain Sensing Wipers

I have a 2019 2 door hardtop and absolutely hate the rain sensing wiper feature. I use rain-x on my windshield and only use wipers when it's absolutely necessary. I find that once the wipers get to a certain speed, that they don't slow down, even with the vehicle speed, on any setting. I wish they had stayed with a standard adjustable intermittent setting.

My owners manual shows that I should be able to disable this with a button on the end of the wiper stalk, but my model doesn't seem to have this button. What gives??

Just make sure the wiper stalk is in the "OFF" position. Auto will light up green on the stalk then just go one position down. It will keep the sensor off.
I'm always hitting mine by mistake, for the 1x when I'm cleaning the dash.

WHen I want to use them, I'd like them to do a standard intermittent wiping, not the automated wiping. If my vehicle has the button that is mentioned in the manual and I switched it off, what happened when the stalk is moved into the auto setting?

Looks like Mini changed the stalk design for 2019. Mine has the button at the end of the stalk and the stalk position indicator listed Off-Lo-Hi going upwards.

Totally agreed in Auto mode, the wipers would go like crazy even in the slowest setting. Will complain to the dealer during the next service.

Auto wiper - setting the frequency

Setting the frequency or sensitivity of
the rain sensor
Turn the thumbwheel to adjust the frequency or sensitivity of the rain sensor.
Up: short interval or high sensitivity of the rain sensor.
Down: long interval or low sensitivity of the rain sensor.

As others have mentioned - only diff for your late 2019 onwards is that the button on the edge doesnt exist. To control the on/off (shown by the green LED) move the stalk position to the AUTO position

non auto intermittent

so - you have one extra label on there that us pre late 2019 blokes dont have.

Light reflection is blocking the list of options you have: Not int/intermittent in there? sucks.
Leaves the trusted bmw one swipe by pressing down option

I have the same complaint about the Auto-Wiper settings. It often goes way too fast for me. And there is no "normal" intermittent setting to my knowledge.

Wow, for me, the Auto wipers work just fine. I really like them. Kind of like a variable delay intermittent wiper.

A rare single wipe, when there is just a light mist. Warp drive, when there is a heavy down pour. And it automatically changes between the two, as needed.

So they took a great car and screwed with it...

Ive had my mini 2 weeks and I LOATH the auto sensor wipers. They are useless in an misty climate.
And basically what I’m reading is in my brand new 30k+ car I have to turn them on and off by hand because intermittent now longer exists?
I had them go into super mode while doing 15 around a corner.

Has anyone found a way to get rid of/block/ trick the sensor?

My 2017 has the button on the end, I used to turn them off because every time I started my car they did a swipe and smear anything on the window. My 2020 doesn't have the button and I love them. I do not have any problems with the speed adjusting automatically.

MINI (and BMW in general) moved away from the button on the end of the stalk. Regardless of how your particular car activates the rain-sensing wipers, there is no way way from the factory to have regular intermittent wiping. Regardless of the old wiper stalk or the new one, your options are: off, rain-sensing, low, high. The only thing that's different is how you turn on rain-sensing (older ones had the button at the end of the stalk, newer ones you move the wiper stalk up one notch). With coding you can decrease (or increase) the overall sensitivity of the rain sensor. You may also be able to code it off completely, but I think that would also remove your automatic headlights since they use the same sensor.

Regarding Rain-X, if I'm not mistaken it's not supposed to be used on cars that have rain-sensing wipers because it confuses the sensors. Personally, I don't have any issues with the rain-sensing wipers in my 2019 F57 (or my BMW or my VW, both of which also have rain-sensing wipers). I keep the sensitivity adjustment **** on the lowest sensitivity (in all three cars).
