2008 MCS Windshield Wipers

This is very frustating, but is there really only two settings for the wipers? either slow or fast? I understand that it's speed sensitive, but when your driving on highway it seems like it's only slow/fast instead of intermittent/slow/fast.... can be very annoying if it's light rain or if its just sprinkling

There is the normal speed, the fast speed and the intermittent speed that varies with how fast you are going. That is unless you get the auto wipers. I didn't like at 1st either but after a year it is no longer any big deal to me.

Through the menu system on the tach, there should be a setting on how sensitive the rain sensing wipers are.

Like DanF mentioned there are 3 speeds:

Push the button at the end of the wiper stalk for intermittent.Push it again to turn it off.
Push up on the stalk for normal.
Push up further for fast.
Push down on the stalk to go back to normal or push down again to turn off the wipers.
Come to a complete stop and the wipers default to intermittent until you start driving again.

Personally I dislike the speed sensitive wipers but I eventually got use to it.

What has been called 'Speed Sensitive' is not. There is a small black box attached to the windshield behind the rear view mirror. That's the rain sensor. The duration of the pause in intermittent mode is dependent upon two things. First is how much it is rain is hitting the windshield, information gotten from the little black box. Second is the sensitivity setting, accessed from the menu. I think there are four sensitivity settings.

Once I understood that turning the intermittent off was the end of the stalk, I've loved how it works.

What you describe are the auto wipers, not intermittent (you have one or the other, not both). I didn't know the auto wipers had sensitivity settings. Do they?

It sounds like there are a few people that need to read their owners manuals. All you need to know about your wipers is clearly written. Just take 5 minutes and you'll be good-to-go. Even I read my owners manual for my '08!

I am talking about manual wipers not the auto wipers. No black box or sensor for the manual wipers and manual wipers are speed sensitive.

For someone living in the PNW (Pacific Northwest) the Auto-Wipers are a Godsend. I was frustrated at first, but quickly learned that setting them correctly was key, and even that setting can be changed at any time. You will know whether the Auto feature is on or off by having rain pelt your windshield and the wipers do NOTHING!! It's that simple.

If you choose to operate the wipers at any other speed you have the stalk to push up "once" for slow speed, or "twice" for fast speed. Also if you push "down" on the stalk it will wipe once. Pull the stalk toward you and the Washer Jets activate for as long as the stalk is held in that position.

I sometimes forget I also have a Rear Wiper.

For those with the auto wipers, make sure they aren't leaving smears over the auto wiper sensor. I found as the wipers wore out the auto wipers became more annoying, especially with the damp fog we have here. They were leaving lines across the sensor and it was activating the wipers almost double what they normally would have. Replacing the blades solved that for me.
