F55/F56 Quaife vs Wavetrac LSD
Quaife vs Wavetrac LSD
I know there are a couple threads on this but most are older. For those out there who have experience with one or both please let me know your thoughts. I'm coming from an OS Giken limited slip diff in my other car.
Once the diff is installed what will the car do in dynamic traction mode? I have been driving mostly in this mode because I forget to hold the switch for 5 seconds. Am I correct that the only way to turn off the auto blip on downshifts in sport mode is to turn traction fully off? Or does it still auto blip downshifts with traction off? I've had cars where all TC is supposedly off but you still need to do something silly like a peddle dance to fully disable the nannies. Is that the case in the F56?

I can't help you with the LSD comparison but yes, the only way to turn off the auto rev-match is to hold the traction control toggle until you get the warning on-screen. It might be possible to code it to start the car with it disabled but I haven't seen anyone post that they've done it.
The car still tries to brake vector with the long button press traction control off but it sure as hell isn't going to save you if you **** it up, I haven't felt it intruding in unwanted ways on the long press, no experience in other modes except accidentally forgetting to turn it off on a run or two. The diff puts the power down, the car knows it's not slipping and therefore doesn't try to brake vector when the diff is doing it's job, if you overdrive or the diff doesn't do it's job and you do get some one tire fire going the brake vectoring will still kick in to try to help.
I AutoX'd with ELSD and with WaveTrac...completely different vehicle. I don't feel any interference from the stock ELSD because the WaveTrac is a Monster!!!
I picked the WaveTrac because it doesn't come with friction plates that can wear down AND it uses the same Differential Type Fluid (I went with Motul)

Someone posted here about coding out the "E"LSD https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...lsd-yet-3.html
I've been playing with the DSC/EDLC off, car's all over the place. I would try a LSD if it didn't involve tearing into the tranny i.e. if it were a rear axle.
So everyone loves their Quaife/Wavetrac's no regrets?

Ain' no sech thang in the Quaife neither.
Nuthin but pretty gears.
Je's sayin'

Interesting that Wavetrac claims to be the only torque biasing diff for the cooper, Quaife is an ATB (auto torque biasing).
So far I got one quote of $2000 labor so this is probably a moot point for me, 3k on top of what I already spent is starting to approach C8 vette territory.
I like the look of the Wavetrac Cam.

I think he means clutch plates... but I don't think any of the options for F series minis are clutch types.

I got very lucky and paid $850.00 to get my Wavetrac installed...I helped so I could see the whole thing. I'm just lucky I have such a good mechanic who LOVES BMWs and their stepchildren.
Getting ready to install mine.
That is a smoking deal! I'm not in Texas but you should share the name of the shop to help out others. My install will cost twice that.
How much Motul went in? I have to assume you used 75W90?

I think he would now do one for about $1100 but that is still a great price and I have had NO ISSUES!
He is moving to his new shop this weekend so would be ready to start again around the 5th or so of February.

The electronic traction control will
apply braking to a spinning wheel.
If you overcome the capability of
the mechanical LSD, the ETC* will
kick in to brake the spinning wheel.
You’ll see less ETC action with a
real LSD IN PLACE, which is a good thing.

Has anyone yet driven these pair of options back to back ?
is one more road or track biased?
im leaning towards the quaife solely on the basis I have one already in my R59 roadster, not very scientific I know. …

Either is good, from all that I know.

so no Quaife for me. WT...... Cali is cheaper than Mass, I could drive it to Cali, enjoy sunshine and still come out with spare change.
