The original gauge looks way more fun than this new design. I can see how they tried being subtle with this GP gauge, but after all, it appears to go backwards in terms of aggressiveness and race-like feel. If I have a GP with that GP gauge, I'd do whatever I can to switch over to the good old MCS gauge, that's an upgrade in my eye. LOL.
FWIW I've been fully opposed to digital gauges but did a test ride event on a 2019 KTM with a TFT digital dash. Didn't bother me one bit from a functionality standpoint. Still ugly as sin while the vehicle is off however.
Totally agree that Tach >>> Speedo. However I think this is just a preview of gen4 MINIs. The primary uses of this gauge are in the EV Cooper S E and the flappy paddle only GP3. We may never see a standard transmission MINI in the US again, might as well just delete the tach completely I guess.
