JCW Tuning kit

Does the kit come with manual on how to operate it. Also, do you know if it has the cup holder "holder" for it or is that something availble elsewhere. We just picked up a '16 F56 S with the JCW Tunning kit and was just wondering. Thanks!

not really, press the remote button 2x to open the valve, 2x to close it

There is a foam remote holder that came with the kit. It goes in the cup holder. My dealer threw mine away .... lovely

Here's a thread that covers holder and placement options

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ed-mine-3.html

I have mine positioned on the right side of my steering column (wedged between the column and the dash. Fits nicely and doesn't push into the crevice when using. I can catch the flashing red light when active out of the corner of my eye w/o having to look down if positioned in the cup holder area..

I actually just got this installed and was thinking about possibly punching out one of the blanked switches in the dash, then dismantling the hand-switch and retrofitting it.

Now that would be cool.

how are you planning on retrofitting the remote though?

So would this so-called JCW Tuning Kit increase HP for Cooper S model?

Yes. It's not a whole lot but it's good for an additional 20 or so HP. Should bring you up to 208 HP and 221 ft-lb assuming everything else is stock.

Here are some dyno numbers for two 2016's- #1 w/ a JCW tune: #2 a Full JCW

2016 F56 Cooper S w/ JCW Tuning Kit:
Wheel Horsepower: 206.53 whp
Wheel Torque: 236.99 ft-lbs
Crank Horsepower: 231.31 bhp
Crank Torque: 265.43 ft-lbs

Here dyno numbers for a 2016 JCW

2016 Factory JCW:
Wheel Horsepower: 220.33 whp
Wheel Torque: 219.66 ft-lbs
Crank Horsepower: 246.77 bhp
Crank Torque: 246.02 ft-lbs

I can attest (as well as the salesman that rode w/ me) that my 2015 MCS w/ the tune kit felt faster than a 2018 JCW when we tested them both back to back on the same roads doing the same maneuvers. Torque numbers made the difference IMO.

My 2020 MCS will be ordered w/ the JCW tune for sure.

Everything is stock(except the car has K&N air filter) and the vehicle is still under warranty. I saw the deal on the MINI's website about JCW tuning kit and the price was about $1500 don't remember exactly. Will keep that in mine, in case I decide to do it.

The tuning kit is a nice addition especially now while the prices are reduced by MINI USA. It may be cheaper to build the car without it and have the dealer install it, you would have to check with the dealer your ordering the car from. The tuning kit is port (not factory) installed in the US before it ships to the dealer. I turn mine on as soon as I pull out of the garage. You can leave it open all the time by unplugging the wiring harness from the bluetooth module after you open the valve and while the car is running.

Not to throw a wrench in the works but I just got a notification from Mini of Peabody; they're running a Dinan special

As far as a holder goes for the JCW Pro Kit, I designed one that can be 3D printed that works very well for me. Here's the link to the model if you happen to know someone with a 3D printer:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3060876

If you want to order this print online just upload the model and it'll cost you about $15
https://www.shapeways.com/

Works very well at holding it even in the twisties and you still get to use the cupholder too

Dinan Electronics in general can be stacked on the JCW tune. The JCW tune pipes and BT open will work too. People have done this on the forum. Get the HP gains of both using some common sense and caution.

PLA material likely not strong enough. Would need to be made out of PVC?

Yeah, I had emailed Dinan about that a few weeks ago and they said it'd work fine but you'd want the JCW Dinan Elite if you have an S with the JCW tune.

PLA worked great for me. The model is solid and prints at 100% infill. Here it is in black

Yeah, I have the Elite for my F56 S. When my local dealership was running a deal on the JCW Pro Tuning kit I was considering selling my Remus exhaust for the tuning kit. This is the message I sent Dinan, "Hola, I've got a 2015 2-D Cooper S with the Dinan Elite tune on it currently. With the JCW Tuning Kit and Pro Exhaust being on sale it's very tempting to get. However, I have some concerns about how it will work with the Dinan Elite as the tuning kit will, well, obviously remap my ECU and bring it closer to a stock JCW without the Dinan Elite. And with the Dinan module I currently have being specifically designed for the map of a Cooper S I'm worried that it won't work properly if I get the JCW Tuning Kit. Will there be any issues or am I overthinking this?"

And this is the response I got back,

"Technically it will work but the top end of the RPM band will be a bit “jumpy” for lack of a better term and it will not optimize the power. The JCW tuning kit and the normal JCW edition should be using the ELITE designed for the JCW in order to maximize power and drivability.

Nathan Fette
Dinan Corp."

So it'll work but you won't be getting the most out of what you paid for. This new info. led me to keep the Remus and modify the exhaust in other ways to get a sound I liked more and then go the route of a proper ECU flash for more power.

Echo that. The Stage 1 on my M240i is throwing a CEL every third start-up (it clears after another three). Fully intended to go w/ a Stage 1 on the Mini, but have since decided to just stay w/ the factory JCW tune (or until Dinan Irons out their issues). There was a time when Dinan was the bullet proof tune w/ a piggy back warranty. Seems like they are rushing products to market before they are fully tested resulting in many unhappy customers.

In Dinan's defense, they do stand behind their product and will make things right. In the case of My Stage 1 .v1, the now offer a .v2 version (pulling all the originals from their website). Problem w/ the .v2, it is essentially their "Sport" version w/ a piggyback warranty and produces noticeably less power than the .v1. It sells for $200 less than the .v1 and Dinan will send a swap put .v2 for any .v1 owners.

The CEL my M240i throws does not impact performance one bit, so if you don't mind a CEL, it works and makes the "a beast" when you hit the gas..
