F55/F56 JCW Tuning kit
It looks like the exhaust gets rid of the middle resonator but keeps the 2nd cat, is that correct? I'm considering this because I think it keeps me stock class legal (SCCA) and I would like to be able to make the exhaust quieter while in my neighborhood. I also dont want to fork over $1800 for the remus, I was leaning toward the NM before this sale.
OD of the exhaust post 2nd cat is 2.75" and ID is 2.63"
I am just not sold on tuner boxes. I don’t have the warranty concerns to worry about, so it was an obvious choice for me to get a full ECU remap from Mariokart. But just a couple of weeks ago, I was installing a downpipe for a guy who has had nothing but problems with his Dinan tuner box. Replaced a couple of times, he also was still having cel issues with the unit removed but the harness still connected. It seems like it’s getting worse, not better with Dinan. Lots of unhappy people. This dude was yet another who sent it back for a refund, bought the Remus cut-out exhaust (sounds fantastic!) and a tune from Mario as well. Now he’s making real hp and loving it!
I keep hearing about Dinan having problems lately. The NM Power Module and JB+ both have good track records here. My issues with those types of things is that it doesn’t change AFR’s. These engines run super lean already, and running it even leaner by tricking it to think it’s at a higher altitude will definitely give you more boost, meaning more power, i wasn't personally comfortable with that. I wanted timing, AFR, and everything else adjusted to work together, so I went full ECU tune and couldn’t be happier!
My other problem with the plug in tuner boxes is simply this: almost everyone I know with a tune started out with a tuner box, then wanted even more, and so on from stage 1 to 2 and so on, lol. I figured I’d get ahead of the curve and go straight for stage 3, lol. Honestly I neeeded a new turbo anyway, so I said why not?

Oh yeah, I'll have another part I could use your help with soon.
Hey man, you leave me out of this. But really the RPM Tune has been fantastic so far. Mario didn't tune out the cat warm up cycle though so the car is extremely loud for ~20 seconds on startup. That's my only gripe I've had so far in the couple thousand miles I've put on it in the month I've had the tune. Well, that and that even with a set of MPSS it's breaking traction pretty easily when starting from a dig. Next major mod will probably be an LSD. The car is a hoot and I love it.

Sure thing, bring it on by!
Not just you though, I’ve been hearing and reading a lot about the Dinan issues. Funny enough, these days a lot has been being said that next to a real tune, the NM Power Module is getting a bunch of new fans. The JCW I did a few weeks before your car had one that I took off for the tune. He loved that thing! I ended up putting it on his wife’s F60 when he got his tune from Mario.

I talked to them before it was available on the option sheet about how they were going to do it once it was on the build sheet. I could see them maybe adding it at the factory ( with the chrome tips then swapping for CF at port or dealer) if there was enough of a take rate on the option to make it worth certifying the part for being on the vehicle during import process. MA's typically don't have the full picture of when stuff is installed. I was talking with a regional sales manager ( same way I know the GP3 isn't getting numbered stickers and a few other little tidbits about it hehe). my info could very well be out of date though if enough people are checking that box.
I wanted to respond to this to confirm you are correct. My Sales Manager called a few contacts at Mini Corporate and confirmed that the JCW tune kit is a a port installed option just as you said. He did not inquire into the why's or how come's, but suffice it to say, even though the kit ordering shows up on the configuator, it is installed when the car hits the VPC (which in my case will delay my car's delivery to the dealership by a day or so).
After our last exchange I called my dealership again and asked if the sales manager could call Mini and confirm, one way or the other on the JCW tune install.. He did and finally got back to me yesterday evening.
So, at least that life's mystery is solved.................
