Idle Issue 2015 F55 MCS

Not sure, since my car is still technically under warranty if i should post in the other forum or not, but....

After the addition of my CAI/Ram Intake from BMS i noticed that after awhile, once the car was warmed up, I'd lose auto start/stop. Didnt think anything of it, until i heard my engine slowly ramping up.... now after a 15 mile drive or so, my car slowly rises up to 1.8k-2k RPMs. Blipping the throttle makes it sink down, only to slowly build back up. Is this common with cars with intakes untuned? Sensor failing? It drives fine with no noticeable issues, haven't had time to really investigate. I lost one of my screws for my stock intake (if anyone knows where i can order replacements let me know!), but i will revert back to stock for a bit to see if it continues, at which point and time the dealer will be seeing the car (and ill be fighting them over the muffler delete im sure).

let me know, lets discuss! Thank you!

The Fuel Tank Vent Valve is failing. Easy to replace. But if you're still under warranty then have them fix it.

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...ion/1VnXuZr3fG

Part number 13907621174 and it's around $90

I was having this problem also and it would hesitate to start when filling up the tank. I have a 2015 F56S

Thanks for the response! I ordered the replacement screws for the airbox, and will be checking it out when they arrive.

bit of an update though, in Mid mode, the issue is not present, only when in sport mode.... could this still be the above described issue or something else entirely?

Update again. Speaking with two dealers, they state that this is 100% normal in sport mode, due to "calibration on the computer side"? Two dealerships, same response so i am leaning towards that. Perhaps someone with a stock or lightly modded one could check it out for me at some point

i still dont think this is normal due to it just starting. I think ill try to get them to check it out anyway.

This is absolutely NOT NORMAL. I have driven my car in sport mode for near on a year, and while, yes, it does rev up a little in sport mode, (say around 800rpm, it by no means ever reaches 2000 rpm. In addition, my car has always allowed for auto start/stop. Well, up until recently, when I just lost it. I will be booking my car in for this in the next week or 2, if I (my dealer) finds something I will report back.

My mods are listed in my sig, but yes, I have many. The only one that has changed since the issue has not been added on my sig, it's the Dinan exhaust, To set an appointment, call your dealer and ask for them to set up a warranty appointment, That way they will have a rental car waiting, The intake does not affect this in any way, but the muffler delete might cause problems. For my information, did you have any issues with the idle and auto start-stop?

Yes. After the initial period it stops functioning. I will put stock intake back on - will a muffler delete truly cause them not to honor warranty?

They must honor the warranty, but they may try to blame it on that. Is this just the rear muffler cut at the axle back? The intake should be fine too. You should be pushing them to replace the vent tank as mentioned above.

Yes. Just the rear muffler, 4in past the back side of it. I may, for ease, get my shop to weld muffler back in and ill put stock intake in. Not trying to have them attempt to void it lol

So my dealer has no problem with this they even saw my exhaust and told me how great it sounded (the Dinan is a straight through pipe), so don't let it worry you too much, Make friends with them, explain its not normal and ask them to fix it. Legally they have to.

Hi DanassI,

Sorry about not responding sooner, been busy at work.

Yes. Usually, I tell them what the issue I am experiencing is, then ask them to look into the thing that I suspect. Of course, the key here is to talk conversationally with them and be considerate. I know you have a drive ahead of you, so don't be afraid to talk about a loaner vehicle.

Now, if they are problematic, simply be firm about it. The issue you are experiencing has nothing to do with the mods, and a good dealer will ensure the solution is best for all involved.

No worries! I have an appointment with a dealer Thursday. My local mini (Daytona Beach) Closed down within the last week with no notice to customers, so im having to drive well over an hour now. Car is fully back to stock, and also need a control arm/bushing so the SA i spoke to was super cool and said they will check over the car while they work and troubleshoot my other issues, all of which covered under my warranty. I will definitely post back once i get an answer.

i will add, they stated they do not give loaners to people who did not purchase the vehicle from them, stating it was a newer limitation put into effect, so we will see once i am there.

Great! I am glad to hear. The control arms were a common concern on early models as well. Good luck, and hopefully the dealer will be more forgiving regarding the loaner when you get there.

Are you going to Orlando MINI? If you are then tell them you got it at Daytona. The Daytona location and the Orlando location are (well were) both owned by the same company.
I got an email from them about the close down. And that the go to guy is Anthony at the Orlando Dealership.

I am, and i had bad experiences with Daytona, so driving for a better group of guys is okay with me! Haha

Update on things, though: both control arms needed replaced, and they believe the AC was being strained causing a rough idle/high rpm due to the engine tilting "significantly" as they put it, due to a bad engine mount. We will see how it performs in a bit when I'm good to go.... i will be utilizing the free transport from Daytona BMW to Orlando MINI from now on, so long as i get a darn loaner! I have a feeling i am not done with the idle issue, because despite saying I've not ran my AC.... they insist they believe it to be the issue. Time will tell.

Do you use the auto mode for the hvac system and the stereo on? If so, the ac runs even if you have turned it off. This is to ensure the windows do not fog up.

Update 1.5: Got the car back, anx as i was driving home, got out of traffic and up to near highway speeds, my car was moving to the right, only to jerk back to the left as soon as i let off the throttle. I was very close to a family members house as i called Mini who told me to drive it safely to home, and call roadside assistance in the morning to get it brought back to them. The roadside assistant tow truck driver thinks that my caliper is locked from the installation yesterday. Mini was more than willing to work on the vehicle and even bring it back to me when its done. Will update again. (RPM issue was not around on the way home, but it had also stopped day before service as well, as its off and on. Possibly motor mounts did fix it)

I had the same problem with my '18 F56 and thought it might be the fuel vent valve, but while searching for that under the hood I noticed a gap where I had not sufficiently tightened the clamp on the aftermarket air filter. Problem solved. If you have one of those, look in that area before you spend money on parts.
