Rear fogs used as brake lights

I tried searching but I haven't been able to turn anything up. Has anyone wired the fog lights to be brake lights? I purchased a 2018 Carbon edition and it has the rear fog lights without the rear fog light button on the switch so I though I would just wire them up as extra brake lights. I wanted to see if someone had already done a write up on it to go off of before I started testing wires.

It’s also in the 3rd Gen FAQ.

Don’t know if you’ve noticed yet, but there is no physical wiring changes involved in this. It is done completely with the BimmerCode app.

Yeah, I am glad I don't have to run any wires even though that is a cake walk for me. I used to be certified in vehicle wiring when I was younger but I would rather not hack in to a brand new cars wiring. My blue tooth module should get here today and I already downloaded the app on my iPhone. I'll do some simple coding at first tonight probably and then work my way to some of the more advanced stuff. I am familiar with coding Audi and VW cars with a VAG com so I am hoping this is a bit similar. I messed around with the Esys program on my wife's 2019 F57 but nothing came up that I was able to change when I got into the modules since I don't think the 2019 is covered as of yet. But I was wondering something, should I wait until after my car goes in for the navigation download? When I picked up my Carbon Edition the nav wasn't activated on it and it goes in on Tuesday for them to correct that. I just wasn't sure if they have to download anything for the NAV if that will just wipe wait modifications I do.

I would wait until the dealer brings all the software up to date. You never know what they’ll update during a regular appointment. Most times when they update a module you will lose any custom programming. Not a big deal though. It’ll just cost you the time to reprogram it.

You mean the practice lol. Thanks for the response. I think I will just play around with the wife's F57 and correct a few really odd things on hers. Is there a way to program the passenger mirror not to tilt when you go into reverse? Makes it a little more difficult when backing out of the garage for her. Right now she just selects the mirror adjustment selector to the right so it doesn't do it.

IIRC you can disable the dip by changing the position of the selection switch for the mirror adjustment. I remember reading about it when I first got my car and discovered that I didn’t have the options required for it.

Any help you might be able to provide with the how to do this part of it? I just got the Bimmercode app and would very much like those useless rear fogs to be additional brake lights!! Not sure how much of a difference it'd make but I have an R56.

I have the same question as John Edwards. I also have the Bimmercode App and appropriates module but I do not see an option to couple brake lights to fogs lights. Advice please?

I went through this with the Bimmercode app. Ended up receiving a refund.

Because I have the basic 6.5” head unit WITHOUT Mini Connected, no sat/nav, no touchscreen…the app wouldn’t work to do what I bought the ODB II dingus off of Amazon & the app to do (I originally wanted to make album art show on the screen via Bluetooth; since I have the basic HU, I’m out of luck).

I’m not saying this is the reason why it’s not working for you, there may be other factors involved…I’m just passing along my experience.

Am still bummed out about this, & I went thru this last year. I really wanted to turn those lights on. And the Bluetooth album art would have been nice too.

I have a '15 with LCI UJ tail lights. Tried coding. No joy. Got a kit from Amazon with LED bulbs. No joy. Connectors are junk. Ordered good (gel filled) connectors. Got wire guard and hardwired them. There is a plugged hole between tail light area to the outside bumper area. 1/2" guard goes through. You have to drop the rear bumper but you need access to the light plug anyway. You need a meter to identify the brake wire. Works great, no warning lights or code errors.

Pay for the full version of bimmercode. the downloaded free version will not write code tweaks
click the URL from moocher three/four posts above - the exhaustive thread posted covers all tried/tested/working bimmercode customizations for the F55/F56 ONLY.
Key difference to note is the standard mode vs expert mode (think of this as a report writer with a UI to click vs dropping into the code to amend params.
Note any regionalization/localization/model year differences in posters experiences.
Dive in - and be sure to add to the thread updates/tweaks/relevant regionalizaiton findings to build out the thread more
