Had My Roof Wrapped

Some of you may have seen in another thread that I was going to have my roof wrapped, and that I was going to with a crazy pink/fuschia color. Well, I decided against it, at least for this time. I ended up picking a color called "Metallic Flip Deep Space". The color has purple, fuschia, green, blue, bronze/copper and black in it.

I had it wrapped Friday, but the weather hasn't been great since and the car has been dirty. I was able to wash the car this afternoon, but it started to rain, so I couldn't get great pics, but at least the car is clean in the pics. Lol. Since it is super overcast, the colors aren't showing up great. The sun makes the roof wrap really pop, but wanted to give some kind of an idea of how it looks. Will get better pics when the sun is out.

Looks great, better than your first choice. I was thinking of redoing mine which is currently red, with "ColorFlow SATIN RISING SUN". Only thing stopping me is finding a reasonably priced installer who knows how to do it. Last one I found screwed up the job 3 times before I gave up.

I might just copy yours as I like purple.

Thanks. I, too, am a huge fan of purple when done in the right way. This color was more expensive than my previous choice, but it's gotten a lot of compliments, even with it had been being dirty and overcast/rainy weather. The day I picked it up, the sun came out for a bit and I was able to see the colors really show (even through the layers of pollen), and I was super happy with the choice. Went to the gas station the other night and it looked AMAZING under the florescent lights.

It'll take the sun to show all the colors, but here are some gas station pics I just took.

That looks sweet! You should get the vinyl shop to cut you some strips of the same material to cover the chrome on the belt line too. Or better yet, have them do it. I think that would make a nice contrast.

I was going to have it wrapped black, but decided against it because I actually liked the chrome separating the top and bottom. Now that you bring up the beltline in this color, that might be a cool option. Might just have to have it done.

Yeah, I think the chrome looks out of place with the black light rings, but the roof color would make it pop. Just my opinion though. Never been accused of having good taste.

Lol. I like the idea. The chrome beltline actually looks much better in person with the cosmetic mods I've done. Surprisingly, a lot of others have thought it looks good too, and I was surprised. I will think about it. Definitely a cool idea.

MAke sure when you clean your roof you only use microfiber towels.

I worked in a vinyl shop and that shiny surface will scratch if you use "regular" towels. You can wax it too so that always helps against fading.

I blow the cars dry with the leaf blower, then whatever water is remaining, I use the CHAMOIS towel. There are a few little bubbles in the top that Im waiting to go away (or for shop to take care of them if not gone within a few days from the sun), and then I will wax it.

Looks awesome!! Great choice. Would be cool with mirrors done too... to be a wet blanket =) Very cool & bold look though, love it. Looking forward to seeing in the sunlight.

Thank you. I had considered this (wrapping mirrors), but I found the mirror caps I wanted and went with those. They're a little difficult to see sometimes, but they're the dark grey/black checkered caps. They look really good in person and flow with the car well.

Forgot to ask what they charged you for the wrap, if you don't mind.

My first go round was $300 for perforated sunroof wrap and rest of roof in a different color. Since they screwed up the job three times and couldn't even run my credit card properly I wound up with a not so great job for nothing. Imagine the surprise when six months later they tried to get me to pay again for a crap job.

Now I'm getting quotes for just the roof without sunroof part of $350 and way up. Trying to figure out what it should be.

I don't mind. My original color choice was going to be about $375 installed. This one was more expensive @ $480 installed. I almost went with a blue chrome wrap for the roof, but it was going to be $1600. I'm not spending that just to have my roof wrapped.

Nice looking, reminds me of the '96 Mystic Cobras. They had 3 colors, purple, green and copper in that paint.

Thanks. Yeah, I always liked those old Cobras and their "Mystic" paint job. This wrap has one color in it that the Mystic Cobras didn't, and that is blue.

Feller's retail division (that is often cheaper than wholesale to sign shops!?)
www.cheetahwrap.com

For that color flip vinyl, you get it in 60" wide sections at $11 per linear foot.
Grab a good suede edge squeegee
These look like a cheap version of what I use at work, not sure of the long term quality but should be good for not scratching during install.

or these (I've used them. pretty good overall)

Honestly, as long as you do good surface prep (super clean, no wax), and do it in a covered location where you don't have hot spots from the sun causing it to melt, the roof of a mini should be one of the easiest wrap jobs you'll find.

Wrapped the MINI 6 months ago. Been using Meguiar's Ultimate Wash & Wax on in and it has held up great. Using microfiber mop (for wash) and towels.
