F55/F56 new wifi back up camera
new wifi back up camera
HI coming out this September from
https://pearlauto.com/ is a back up camera that connects with your iPhone. cost is $499.
I have a 2016 F55 and my question is where is the OBD port on my car. Need to plug the system into the port.
Interesting product invented by former apple employees.
thanks

Neat idea, but WAY expensive compared to other backup camera systems that include a screen. I like the idea of having two cameras and using Wifi to communicate so no wiring, but I would worry about someone jacking this from my car and it would be really cumbersome to set your phone up everytime you want to back up.
The OBDII is on the driver's side under the dash.

There are other wi-fi backup cameras, all seem to have a separate module to connect to the iPhone.
Here's a photo, I'm not sure if it will be useful to anyone else, it's a bit blurry. What's important is that little metal plate beside it with a tab that hangs down, that's pretty easy to find when you feel around down there. The port is just to the left.

have a 4door justa ,on order .....umm ...port? what kind of plug can you plug into there to get 12 V power for a gps or for a screen for the back up camera? ( back in the day of the little fuses you could just pop out a fuse and pop it back in with a wire jammed in there that would be connected to its own fuse to power a tape deck or something)
I am thinking getting the garmin gps/wireless back-up camera system and leaving the small 4" or 5" portable garmin gps hooked up permanantly mounted somehow but haven't looked in to how to access power from the OBD ( don't want to leave a wire permanently dangling to the cigarette light port or the USB) ... how to plug into the OBD?...so this arrangement would have a gps and the back up camera for just around $250 or so.....has anyone out there tried the garmin system?

It seems the system the OP is looking at has a piece that plugs into the OBDII port.
The camera is powered by solar, sends a wireless signal [a low-power signal?] to the piece that plugs into the OBDII, that piece connects to the iPhone by wi-fi.
Most of the units I've seen run a wire from the camera to a box located in the back of the car that plugs into the wiring back there, then that box sends out a wi-fi signal.

ahh ...but us there a separate fuse box where you can connect into to get a 12 v power source or is that part of the OBD ?
