Alternative shift ****

Do you think this would work as a direct replacement?

this should work, bmw and mini have the same shift shaft ends. i put a black leather momo on mine, cant stand the oem ****.

the M logo will look a little funky though. you can pull the patter part off, it is just stuck on with adhesive.

Just concerned about the shift boot. Remember how shift *****+shift boots were spontaneously coming off in driver's hands, and then we had a recall so they could glue "something"? If the **** and boot aren't connected to one another, why did they both go flying off in some of the videos I saw?

In the various ****-swapping vids I've seen, I should be able to just pull the **** off, leaving the boot behind. Is that not the case?

Confused.

No worse than having a JCW logo on your steering wheel. ;-)

I use a R56 one that was almost a direct replacement. BMW ones, as mentioned, will fit but you'd have to come up with a boot retainer of some sort.

Whalen ***** are the best. You can have the custom engraved with your design, or choose one of theirs. Doug is a great guy to talk to. You can also look at the installation video on the website. I have purchased three ***** from him for my cars.......

I haven't tried a Whalen, but I gotta say I love my Cravenspeed. Nice weight, great tactile feel. The way it attaches makes it super solid with the shift lever- they become a single unit. I never noticed the slop of the OEM ****, until I put theirs on.

+1 on the Cravenspeed ****. This is mine.
I've also had one of Doug Whalen's ***** too. Also an excellent choice. I give the nod to the Cravenspeed unit though. Doesn't get too hot or cold like a solid metal unit can.

That's gorgeous. I also hate the stock shift **** and was thinking about a replacement but those stainless steel ***** looks like they would leave a searing hot imprint on my hand in warm weather.

The Whalen shifter is brilliant. I had one with the Helix logo on it, but sold the car and the buyer wanted it :-(. I'll also second the thumbs-up for the Craven *****: they do top notch work.

We also carry a variety of Raceseng ***** which are machined not far from us in PA. They make a bunch of different styles--all very nice.

I did't like the feel of the oddly shaped ****. And, it looked too much like a hip replacement to me. But, that's what keeps it interesting. Everyone has there own preference.

It's nice-looking, no question, but it's the same shape as the non-JCW shifter, so it's no better for my needs.
