1st oil change

We are coming on 1 year from purchase of 2014 F56S.
Mileage is 4500.
Is the first oil change 1 year or 10k miles?
With low miles I would like to get the max number of changes before warranty expires.
That will necessitate having the 1st oil change a day or 2 before the original purchase date?
That way the warranty will not have expired before the last change is due.
Comments and experience with oil changes under warranty welcome.

First change is at the 1 year OR 10k miles.

I did my first change at 500 and paid out of pocket for peace of mind. They will try to recommend you do other things.

Slightly off topic - I'm currently waiting for my Mini to be shipped - I know there's an oil level meter you can bring up on the display (needs to be as there's no longer a dipstick!), but is there also an oil life meter as well?

If so, does it display in a percentage, or miles left before an oil change or what?

Thanks!

You can see when your next oil change is due two ways:

- When you start up the car, the instrument cluster will briefly show "Service" along with a mileage and date to let you know when your next service is due.

- You can also check anytime by going to Vehicle Info from the main menu, then Vehicle Status. At the bottom of this menu is an option to see "Service Required". This will show you all your scheduled maintenance and when they are due.

They do mileage or time because time is just as detrimental on a vehicle as mileage.

Hmmmm, something is odd here. The computer is programmed to not let the MINI reach it's annual date before an oil service is performed. In most cases, the service minder will "call in" a low mileage vehicle around the 8th or 9th month. What does your service display read when you start the vehicle? The parameters could be different for the F56 because of the new motors, but I can tell you that the service indicator will turn red on a R57/R60/R61 if the vehicle enters its 8th month for sure.

Also, the dealer is allowed to perform the service 30 days (or maybe 60 days now) BEFORE the actual due date. This will allow you to sneak in an extra service under the maintenance plan. Even if your MINI does not say service is due, I would schedule an appointment a month before that annual date and push them to do it!

The one year is not from the date of purchase, it's from the date of manufacture. I bought a new '13 in January of '14 and have had two oil change. One was at 5,000 miles and the other was at 10,000 miles just a few weeks ago and they both have been free.
