Dynamic Damper Control Decision on the F55 MCS

So I probably have 24 hours left until my F55 goes into production and I'm *still* agonizing over whether to add the Dynamic Damper Control suspension option. My concern, really, is that I will be driving the majority of the time in normal (mid) mode and that the -10% stiffness at this setting will be too soft vs. a MCS without DDC. On the other hand, it would be very nice to have the option to go into Sport mode and have the +10% stiffer ride. The other thing to consider is how a four-door MCS suspension without DDC feels vs. a 2-door MCS since the 4-door has a longer wheelbase. Any thoughts from people who have DDC?

Frankly, I rarely use my DDC. My F56 is my 1st MINI, and the standard setting is fine with me.

FWIW, I have DDC, but use the Normal setting about 85% of the time. BUT, the Sport is very fun for the 15% that I use it, and I am glad I have it. I never use Green.

We are all different, but I would get the DDC.

Agreed, I have DDC and even though I don't use it every day....I am glad I have the option...Its good to have choices should you want. Get the DDC!

I have added it to my build after test driving a Mini S. While overall the ride was acceptable (I'm not a racer or autocrosser), if I could soften the ride a bit more (10%), I would. The car will be an around town scooter and grocery getter. I'm looking for the most compliant ride I can get while enjoying all the cool quirkiness of the Mini

The Dampeners allow this (in all three modes) which I think is great.

Good logic. Unfortunately, the Green mode makes the engine drowsy even when the automatic's lever is to the left -- more responsive engine mode. I don't regret getting the DDC, I just rarely think about it. Will probably add some value at trade-in time.

Being that close, I doubt you'll be able to change your order.

Tires with more compliant sidewalls are in your future.

The bad news is that my order for the car without DDC already went into production. The good news is that I can still claim my first car build from last week that does have DDC. That build doesn't have the factory alarm option on it so it comes down to choosing between a F55 MCS with DDC and no alarm or a F55 MCS without DDC but with the factory alarm. All the other options I wanted are the same on both cars.

a question on the DDC- I assume the +10%/normal/-10% is tied to the sport/normal/green driving mode? As in, you can't adjust them separately?

Everyone seems to agree that on both Green and Normal, it's -10% compared to the suspension on a Mini that does not have DDC, +10% on Sport with the option to turn off DDC on Sport (you cannot turn it off on Green and Normal).

I'm still pretty new to the Mini and all it's features. So here's my question(s):

When you add the DDC to a Mini is it active all the time or is there a switch to turn the dampening on and off?

To clarify, if it has an on and off switch, when off, the Cooper has normal suspension in all modes.

When "on" it softens the ride automatically in green and normal -10% and adds +10% stiffens to the ride in sport (with an option in the center control panel to also soften the ride in sport to -10% like green and normal modes.

Yes? no? maybe so?

Either way, I'm ordering it on our car. A 10% more compliant ride certainly can't hurt around town motoring.

I'd go for the car with DDC. Forget the alarm -- that's what insurance is for. I don't pay any attention to car alarms sounding in parking lots. I look at it simply, if a thief wants it bad enough the alarm is not going to stop them. You can always add an after market alarm if you just have to have one, you can't add DDC later (well, you could I suppose, but it would cost 10 times more than an alarm)

It is only configurable in SPORT.

MID/GREEN = -10% - no option to change
SPORT = +10% OR -10% - option to turn it off and go back to -10% within the headunit under the Driving Modes setting while keeping everything else on SPORT settings.

So unlike traction control or launch control when ordered on other cars (which can be selected or deselected) , DDC when ordered on a Mini, is "on" all the time. No option on the dash to select DDC "on" or DDC "off". correct?

So if I understand what siriuszero is saying, there are only two damping settings with the DDC option: the soft one when MID/GREEN driving mode is selected, and the firmer mode when SPORT is selected. Correct?

Also, the soft setting is 10% softer than the non-DDC stock dampers , while the firm setting is 10% firmer than non-DCC.

Normally DDC will change to stiffer damping when you switch into SPORT mode, but there is an option to keep the softer damping settings within SPORT. In MID/GREEN, it will always be in the softer -10% setting with no way to configure.

Car is officially ordered. Decided to go with the car that has the DDC. Thanks for the advice everyone. Now the waiting begins...

10% adjustment for $500 dollars for another
function is an invitation for something else to malfunction.
We Passed.

DDC is the suspension.
DSC and DTC are the stability and traction, which can be turned off.

Cool thanks, Thought maybe there was a switch to defeat it if desired. Not a biggie. Glad I ordered it.
