New MCS Owner has question about dents in roof.

Aloha Everyone!

I've been following NA Motoring for some time now & finally got a Mini of my own! I'm a proud new owner of a 2015 Moonwalk Gray/Black Roof MCS I love everything about my car & this is actually my second Mini but... I have a concern about my car's roof. Yesterday I gave my Mini its first wash & I noticed several dents or dimples in the car's roof. I only had my car a few days, so I called my dealer about it & he hasn't gotten back to me yet. Is this a common manufacturer flaw? Or maybe caused by the freight shipper? Thank you all for your feedback

I'd like to know too.. I originally had a black roof and the dents became noticeable when I installed red vinyl. Are yours little dings or few inch wide indentions?

I did a roof wrap very soon after getting the car, hence I went over the roof in great detail. No dents or dimples.

However, I wouldn't wait long before following up with the dealer. The longer you wait, the higher probability that there's little that can be done because how do you prove it didn't happen post delivery?

sounds like hail damage. very common here in kansas. it can be fixed by paintless dent repair but they should have disclosed this during sale. check with an attorney.

Little off topic, when you wrap your roof did they go around the rails?

We have had a few at our Dealer with little dents in the roof. We came to two conclusions, either it's from the techs pulling off the wrapping when they PDI them or it could be from the truckers/shipping.

This thread reminds me that I had a dent in the roof of my 2008 MCS. I didn't notice it until after several months of ownership and blamed myself for somehow causing it. But now I think there must be a problem somewhere in the manufacturing, shipping or delivery process.

I don't know whether it would be an easy dealer repair (doubt it), but I'm sure going to be looking carefully at my new MCS (not yet ordered).

Define the rails? If we are talking about side black molding, molding actually comes off and wrap goes to edges of roof with molding then snapped back in place. At the front of the car, wrap actually can be cut long and then tucked under rubber molding. And at the back, it's cut in the middle of the spoiler and then tucked down each way (roof and spoiler). Finally, the back black plastic at the rear of the molding is not removable and the wrap is very carefully trimmed to meet the molding.

There's some detailed pictures here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...rap-12244.html

No problem. If you have a countryman, I wouldn't think you would want a wrap over the rails. Either they'd have to be pulled (if the could) and then put back down, or trim to the edge of the rail if non-removable.

The dents on my roof varies in size. On the passenger side, there is 4 or 5 dents that are about an inch in diameter. Then towards the middle of the roof, there's an indentation that's a few inches wide. It's really weird, because the roof doesn't have any damage to the paint, so I'm wondering if it's a manufacturing issue.

In earlier generations MINI had a manufacturing process that caused roof outer skin dents because of the way they were attaching the inner roof bows. The adhesive was pulling the sheet metal down and causing dimples. They may have that problem again.

When a plastic lid from a storage container fell off a shelf and left a dimple in my roof, I was very surprised. It wasn't heavy, soft steel? Haven't gotten a ding specialist to look at it yet.

Well I called my dealer body shop and asked about painting my 2015 countryman roof, to make this short I was told by the advisor that the black color in the sport package option, is not paint that is some kind of acrylic that gives that glossy look effect. Does anybody know if this is true? I have owned may cars including black ones and I have never seen black paint scratch so easily as the black paint on the roof of the 2015 countryman. S o I'm wondering if the adviser is right when he stated that is not paint is acrylic of some kind.
