Audio Question (high level)

This is really for an electronic genius.....
I notice that the audio system runs something called K-CAN4.
Here's a quote form one of the service manuals.
I want to ditch my HK amp - at present the K-CAN4 runs to the existing amp can I just terminate it before it gets to the amp? In the non HK system that has the same head unit the K-CAN4 terminates at the ASD unit. I would say yes but would love to know if anyone knows this stuff.
Please see this posting for how the K-CAN4 is wired into the system pic 4.1 and 5.1
Thanks

Let me Google that for you

https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...pe=&as_rights=

You're going to need a LOT more information to make sense of any given implementation. My recommendation....... forget it.

Lawnmower - That's not the kind of thinking that invented car or put us on the moon. As the controller is at the end of the line I doubt it would be missed. The head unit would not know that the amp is there and neither would the computer. It would just assume it is sending signals to the speakers like most basic head units.
This is not a high end BMW stereo with fibre optics, it is a pretty inexpensive affair IMO. I will get my service manager on the job tomorrow!

Give me a break. Moon. Sheesh. You don't have a clue how these things work, and I'm pretty sure that any service manager (who's not in the business of engineering these things) will know either. As someone who has actually implemented this kind of thing in avionics, I can tell you that system controllers typically poll the attached equipment with "Are you there?" requests. I don't know about CANbus specifically, but I'd put money on it working this way too, since these systems are direct descendents of aircraft data buses whose operating principles are pretty well known.

I bet you that I can make this work..... and I'll post how so others can do it too.
I've already unplugged the amp - and the car did not blow up and everything still worked - except the sound of course. Also I've completely rewired the harness to bypass the ASD. The car was in for service and I had them check and there were no error codes.
Some one built it - it is possible to mod it. Thanks for your input.

Just curious and not trying to get off topic, however, what are you trying to accomplish? Bypassing the ASD I assume? If that's the case why not just go with the bypass harness which I believe you built and wrote up in a previous thread? Maybe it did not function properly or gives an error code?

CooperB - As I said in the tread opener - Want to ditch the HK amp. Not loving the sound. Want to install a non OEM amp and change some of the speakers.
That harness I built just has the head units F & R channels bypass the asd. I left the Can bus check in place. The CPU thinks the ASD is installed and working. I don't want to do this for the amp.
1 - I can sell it
2 - I want to use the space to install the new amp.

"How to" thread.. Good luck. As was said, someone built it, it can be modded..

N2 MINI - No. I don't know exactly how to do it yet. That is why I asked for constructive help. So if you know something please contribute. Thanks.

On the R56 one can get a HK enabler and then use an after market amp. Is this what you are trying to do on a F56?

Ive used it on a few R56's for people. It makes life much simpler. It was a plug and play type deal.

I think that that cable is for replacing the HU? The problem is that the HU in the F56 seems to be flashed differently in HK system. It sends data to the amp not an audio signal. Most of the German car manufacturers seem to use a proprietary system depends on the car.

The Can Bus is not really the problem - installers tell me you can unplug it without getting an error code on the amp.
Still working on this. Can you send me a link to the cable? Thx

After a bit over a month I finally installed a backup cam and that works great. Really excited about the end result.

I will admit I'm disappointed no one can get the tpms working bit in reality I lived without on on other cars. And have heard you can use an app on your phone like torque pro to get this and the oil check. So I'll have to try it.

Every once in a while the head unit can be a bit buggy bbug have to remind myself that before this I had the really shitty base unit with no bluetooth for music and had to use a really terrible aux bluetooth that would disconnect all the time.

Also I spent 400 on this rather than several thousand for a stock nav that I really dont like.

I mostly use waze and the Sirius xm app and have no issues really.

Now with the backup cam I can park without worrying about scuffing my bumper getting into really small spots. Also with my back window tinted pretty dark I was going blind at night.

The backup cam cost 40$ on Amazon and looks OEM from outside. I poked a small hole for wiring in the little plastic cover above the rear plate. And if I had to get rid of it I could buy the piece cheaply and replace it.

If anyone has questions let me know but for the money if you have the screen it's crazy not to use this feature.
