Factory Order Harman/Kardon Question

I put in an order for a 2014 MINI, and was later told the Harman/Kardon audio couldn't be included by my MA. I told him to postpone the order until it became available. Two days later my MA told me he could put in the order and sent me a Vehicle Inquiry with my build. The HK system isn't listed on the inquiry, but he said his manager would send an email to add it.

Does anyone have experience with this happening? I told him I wouldn't accept delivery of the car if the Harman/Kardon audio wasn't present, but I feel like he is just trying to get the car here and thinks I won't refuse delivery once I see the car.

Should I ask for an updated Inquiry that includes it?

The Harman/Kardon audio was also missing from my build sheet, however my MA assured me it would be added as they just lifted the hold. I noticed on the final sheet it was there. I would ask for an updated sheet.

Yes you should!

The order code should be included on the build specifications. If it's not there, the vehicle will not have the option. Have you been issued a chassis number yet?

I had the same problem. The MA sent in the order sheet without, but hand wrote it on the sheet for my records. They said that they would have to send in a separate order for it to get approved and added to the order sheet. Then about a week or so later I was emailed the corrected order sheet with the HK on it and the production number. I would follow up with your MA once you have a production number and ask for an updated order sheet.

2014 Hardtop, Deep Blue w/white top and mirrors, white bonnet stripes, cold weather and wired package. Hope to take delivering in about a week.

Good to see other people have had a similar experience. I'll be waiting to hear from my MA.

Even with some issues I've been having, I'm excited. The wait for the car is going to kill me...

No chassis number yet, just the production number in the vehicle inquiry. Looks like I took someone else's spot, so hopefully that will speed up delivery.

Sounds like how it works right now. The regional managers can add HK system, but the regular MAs are unable to create orders with it. So they can setup everything else and then have their regional rep add the HK after.

Here's a couple more threads on the same issue, to give you more piece of mind: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...yed-parts.html

This is the way it worked for our recent order. Funny thing happened though.... in the time it took for them to get the approval to add the H/K, the car they had configured and was waiting in the system went into production and they couldn't change it. So they built another one, just like it ours and added the H/K. So they are getting two identical cars, one without the H/K on the same truck.

The H/K shortage will be over in Jul. The 2015 Premium Package has it back as part of the package.

The sound without HK is awful. It's the only thing that is very disappointing about my car. I can't believe a manufacturer would make such a nice car, yet fail include even a $20 set of tweeters in the posts and a decent amp to liven it up. As an audio enthusiast for over 30 years I can say without a doubt that the $89 JVC media receiver in my 03 Mini sounds better than my new Mini.

Glad I waited then.

I'm glad I finagled a HK order for my build. The sound quality has been great.

I'm with you... the non HK sound is the most disappointing thing about my car, but it is sure made up by the rest of "Toaster's" qualities. Maybe they'll make an aftermarket solution for upgrading to the HK or similar system in the near future.

I'd sure pay for that!

Soon you'll see that there will be places that will upgrade the whole thing (speakers, amp, add a sub if you want) for maybe double the HK and it'll sound way better. I'm about ready to do that with my new HK which IMO is underwhelming compared to my 2007 HK.

The volume curve is definitely skewed toward the quiet end of the spectrum, but I think it sounds nice at lower volumes. It does seem to break down at higher volumes, I must say... I guess it's better than stock (having speakers in the back, etc), but I agree, the entire experience is not really for blasting the music.

Non-HK audio sucks. Upgrade will be essential.

Yes, Non-HK audio sucks. Upgrade will be essential. Best part about that is that you can do something aftermarket that is superior to the HK. Problem is the door holes only hold 4" speakers, and there's nowhere to add tweets unless you drill holes. What about the front center pod in the dash? The HK has a speaker or two there. What amount of space is there for an upgrade for a non-HK. Seems like a lot of wasted space where some aftermarket sound could be installed. Any thoughts? Has anyone seen the space under the center pod? Does the entire dash have to come off? Or are there clips so it can be popped out?
