oil catch can on gen3?

What do you think, has bmw solved the issue with carbon buildup from gen2?
Will anyone install a oil catch can on their gen3 just in case?

You can't solve the issue without fuel flow over the intake valves. Catch cans are a minimal help, I'll probably skip it. I've been debating buying a media blaster though.

Drive the highway b/w 3-4K RPM on a regular basis. You will have minimal carbon buildup. It primarily happens on short trips where the engine is not up to temp.

Just pull the 7inch S shaped hose off and look inside. It will probably be dry as a bone, thus no catch can needed.

Nope, don't think so.
As long as the crankcase breather tube is directed into the air intake, carbon build up is here to stay. Worse and more common on Direct Injected engines, because fuel is not cleaning them up. Instead injected directly into the head.
Just run some air intake cleaner once in a while like using BG kit.
