Problem locking doors with Comfort Access

I've had a 2015 Mini Hatchback for a week and am having a minor issue:

When I get out of the car and press the button on the door handle to lock the door, I have to press it three times before it locks. I can press the button on the passenger door once and it locks. Also, if I have a passenger who exits the car when I do, I can press the button once and the Mini locks with no problem. I'm having a hard time figuring out why this is. I thought maybe there might be a setting but I haven't had any luck finding it. Can anyone offer a suggestion?

Follow up question. Is there a setting that will automatically lock the doors if I walk away with the key in my pocket? I would prefer that to having to hit the button three times.

This is the weird logic that is programmed into comfort access. If your doors are set to lock automatically when you drive off (which the default is on), when you leave, you are unlocking just the drivers door. When you go to hit the comfort access button, the computer thinks you want to unlock the passenger door. The first time you hit the button, that's what it does. The second time probably doesn't register since the button will not accept input for about a couple seconds after a press, the third press is the next one that registers and with both doors now unlocked, it locks both (finally).

That's why pressing the button from the other side or when you have a passenger, everything locks the first time. In the case of locking from the other side, the door you are controlling from the door is already locked so it thinks you want to lock the other door to match. When you have a passenger, when you both get out you are unlocking both doors, the only thing left for the button to do is lock both doors.

The work around is that you can either turn the lock with drive away off, though it will leave both doors unlocked while driving. (SETTINGS --> Door Locks)
OR
When you're leaving the car, use the inside door lock to unlock the other door.

No - from what I understand it's a safety thing so that you don't accidentally lock children or pets in the car or something.

I don't see the need for the doors to lock while I'm driving. Easy solution.

The third workaround is a lot more involved, but I think it's worth the benefits and is what I did with my F55 and my R60 before that.

Using the ESYS software and a special cable to code the car's computer to have all the doors unlock upon engine off will also let you easily lock all the doors when leaving AND still have your doors lock when you drive away.

You can program a bunch of other cool things once you get everything set up, but it does require an initial investment of time to learn the software, money to get the cable (~$25), and a decent proficiency of computers.

Interesting. My other minor issue is covered there as well (Climate Control coming on when ignition starts). It looks like there's someone in SoCal that is doing this. I'll look into that.

Thanks!

If you can find someone local that can code for you, even better!

Will coding affect the warranty or anything?

Like most modifications you make to the car, if what you do breaks something because of what you did, the warranty goes out the window.

This whole process seems to be a bit contradictory to any previous BMW or MINI coding. Not sure if the OP is doing something weird to get this behavior.

Typically, if the doors lock while you drive off, you arrive at destination, turn engine off, pull door handle twice, close door, press comfort access and walk away.

I have owned 4 MINI's and 7 BMW's,, all of different models and years....never have I had this happen to me

Problem locking doors with Comfort Access

If you read the third post in this thread you'll see exactly what that problem was. The issue was solved with some simple coding.

Coding seems a bit extreme

Especially when no other BMW or MINI exhibits this behavior. It should be something that a dealer will rectify (provided you can explain the situation accurately)

This is specific to the F56/F55. My R60 and any other 2nd gen MINI work how you described.

Dealers can't do anything because there's technically nothing to fix - ALL F56/F55s behave this way. I hope it's something they change in a future software update, but as of now F5x owners can either follow the workarounds mentioned above or if they're savvy enough, they can use ESYS to eliminate this (as well as change/add other useful things in the car)
