Moss Running Lights w/Angel Eyes" - has anyone used these?

http://www.mossmini.com/Shop/ViewPro...eIndexID=52440

I'm thinking that running these along with my Hella Angel Eyes driving lamps would make for a striking look at night, but I'm not clear on how the actual running light works here. I know that the OEM Mini light has two bulbs, one for the parking light and a second for the turn signal, but this looks like it only has a single bulb. Has anyone actually installed this and can tell me how it works? I suspect that the "angel eye" is, in fact, the turn signal and the main light is the parking light or vice versa - can anyone confirm?

Also, can anyone tell me how involved the install for this is? Did you have to pull the front bumper to access the screws that hold in the light mount screws?

The way I see it, the "angel eye" part is actually the parking lights.

The center part of it is your turn signal...

Only a guess...

Removing the front bumper is really easy. Do a quick search here or on MotoringFile and you'll get plenty of how-to.

Wiring it shouldn't be too hard.

That's what I was guessing (ring lights = parking lights) but I wasn't sure. $90 for a purely aesthetic MOD isn't too heinous, provided that I don't lose anything in the safety or performance departments.

I bought a set from NewMiniStuff, but haven't installed yet and not sure if the ones I have are the same.

Yes, I have them.
The way they work is the outside ring is illuminated by 2 LED lights. They are your running lights.
The inter light is the turn signal. You can use all the stock parts.

Install on an 06 MCS was IMO impossible with out removing the front bumper cover. This was really easy to do and once off the install was a piece of cake.
Wiring is pretty much pull the old bulbs from the running lights and plug in the LED wires into the bulb holder from the stock harness.
The turn signals just attach as the original installation in the center hole.

Spend some time centering the new lights up in the bumper hole and then reinstall making sure to plug in the side lights and there is a sensor which sits in front of the radiator.

Interesting... those say to:

"Pair of HALO front sidelights (use your existing indicator bulbs)"

The ones I linked to look to be complete units, with the entire housing and bulbs. Do yours look like the photo I put in my original post?

EDIT: So the unit is really just the ring LEDs and you re-use the OEM turn signal inside of it?

Correct the unit is a ring of LEDs with reflectors and you reuse your OEM turn signal.

They look exactly like the picture above.

You can use your OEm turn signals - but you will still get the yellowish hue showing through the center of the angel eyes. I have 2 pairs of angel eyes sitting in my living room(2 minis) waiting for stealth bulbs so they will look like the pic on Moss' site. The ones from Moss (which I ordered) DO NOT come with the silvered bulbs, just an FYI

Just to get this straight...in the APR thread you were saying that HIN wasn't your thing, but you are running LED angel eyes on your car? Those became popular on the Hondas you see at HIN...(yes i know, BMWs come stock with them.....but i will bet that atleast 25% of the hondas at HIN have angel eyes)

Just funny

If you're gonna do angel eyes, go for the real thing:

Oooh.... those ARE nice. What kit isthat? I've never seen that one before. Honestly, it might be TOO nice - the angel eyes on my driving lights are just LEDs and that looks like a cold cathode tube or something, and might not match... VERY sharp.

And it's not adding things to my car that I'm against... It's annoying, in-your-face websites that blast music unexpectedly when you open them, where ANYTHING blinks and where the products are all splashed around and impossible to find that bug me. And, sorry, but that HotImportNights web site is, (IMHO) a freaking train wreck... But, hey, to each their own... My comments in the APR thread were all about his PRESENTATION (the web design and the "yo, homes" language) and not the product - honestly, if I had a hard top, I'd doubtless be looking for a cool wing for my car.

It's a custom job. It's not a cold cathode, it's just a real Angel eye, presumably bought from a place that sells the BMW angel eyes like www.umnitza.com

I installed the MossMini angel eyes early this summer. As stated they add nothing the the HP or handling enjoyment of Greta but they sure do look trick.

The following photo is a shot with supplied leds. Have since replaced with a different bulb that more closely matches Piaa headlight and driving lights.

Now you see? THAT'S a clean web site, selling what's in effect, "car bling" without all the obnoxious hype. Maybe it's because they were initially designed for Bimmers. Looks like they have a really interesting product and I'd love to take a stab at it on a Mini. Are the headlight units sealed, or can you access the interior to place something like that? Wiring-wise, it seems fairly straightforward (relay, hot lead, ground, etc.). Hopefully, they'll develop a kit made specifically for the Mini - I can see them producing a set-peice kit with 2 larger tube lights for the main lights and two smaller units for the parking lights... That would be awesome.

They have offered to make a set for the MINI (they are NAM sponsors after all). But you would need to open the headlight, which only a handful of people have done. I'm about to do it tomorrow, but it requires placing your headlight in an oven to soften the sealant holding the headlight together. Definitely not for the faint of heart.....which may make it hard to sell such sets.

Rally, be sure to take lots of pics so we can learn from your mista... erm, I mean from your WISDOM. Hopefully it's not TOO difficult. I'll have my fingers crossed for you, man, and do please let us know how they turn out. I've looked around and, as far as I can tell, there's no How-to for such a project for the Mini, so if you want to make one let me know and maybe I can help you write it up.

powerbulbs.co.uk has them too, and they come with free "bright white" sidelight bulbs

*dont worry about the shipping from the UK, it's free and as fast as any US company*
