ABS Wheel Sensor and Dash Lights

Simple question. 2005 MCS/100K miles/owned since new. My TPM/flat tire light stays on all the time now and cannot be reset by any published technique. No performance impact. I have read that a defective ABS wheel sensor, especially left front, often causes this light to come on. Most posts say that the DSC light and ABS light will also be on in that case. Neither is true in my case. Only the TPM light is on.

Is this consistent with a failed ABS sensor?

If the ABS sensor is bad you will get the ABS light and TPMS light.

Since you have only one light and the TPMS switch will not work , check to make sure the switch is working and ok.

on the 2005 , it on the side of the center console,. not the front middle of it, but same swicth/

Just a thought, maybe you have a TPMS that is bad... Have you had new tires installed recently? Check out this thread HERE.

A code reader will help track the source. Preferably INPA or something else BMW specific

You could check it out, I believe its the switch or connection.

The 2005 MINIs don't have inboard TPMS sensors in the wheel. They read only off the ABS sensor.

Just learned this myself yesterday!
I was told that the ECU senses the wheel speed and can use that to tell if a tire's pressure is low.

TPMS Mystery Solved!

After puzzling tor 2 weeks over why the TPMS light was on all the time and could not be reset, this thread answered the mail! The keys here are as follows:
1. If tires are all good and the TPMS light stays on all the time and not accompanied by other lights (ie, ABS/DSC), then it is likely the reset switch that is at fault. I almost bought an ABS wheel sensor which also causes this problem, but the ABS fault light should be on in that case.
2. Wire connector on mine had simply fallen out; no doubt due to some service tech not snapping it back as it should be in a recent dealer encounter.
3. Another clue: If the reset switch is disconnected, the backlit reset switch will not light up.
4. Finally, once reconnected, I tried to reset the TPMS but the light stayed on. I had to drive a few miles and even restarted once before the dashlight went out.

Eureka!
