ElectricalFor discussions regarding wiring up electrical modifications such as radar detectors, brake light mods, power sockets, and driving lights in Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs.
Recently bought my wife a 2002 Mini Cooper. The tire pressure light came on and I looked up the reset procedures. After several attempts at resetting, I suspected something else. I pulled up the center console and found that the wire harness attached to the button was messed up. Two of the three wires going into the plug have come out of the white plastic plug. The green wire is still firmly in the back of the plug, but the brown and red are pulled out. What order do the wires go, so that I can repair the plug and hopefully get the tire light to turn off.
your rest button is in the dash? interesting mines under the hand brake, and all i have to do is push it. though i have R53, may be diffrent from a justa cooper.

Mine is under the brake too, and I should just need to push it, but the wires have been pulled out of the plug, and I need to figure out what goes where.
Thanks for those, I'll start digging through them. If someone could even just pull their button real quick, or lift their center console, and tell me the order of wires, whether its green brown red or green red brown, that'd be awesome.
I'm still having issues figuring out this plug. Can someone please pull their button out, and take a picture of the plug? Or atleast tell me the order of the wire colors?
ill get to it tomorrow afternoon..... i just literally haven't had the time to do it. get home real late and dont want to fiddle with things in the dark.
I have a similar problem and would like to know how to lift the handbrake console to access the switch please.
You have to pull fairly aggressively on each of the sides to pop the clips out. Squeeze the boot on the brake to get it off and make sure there are no screws holding it I. Before you pull. I believe there are 2 clips on each side but can't remember if there are screws.
Thanks, I have actually been able to unclip the part that holds the leather boot, but don't know how to get the rest of the plastic unbolted from the floor or whatever so I can get to the switch. Where are the bolts or screws?
The handbrake boot can be squeezed together on that trim ring clip and then pulled out. You can also use a small trim tool or flat head to pop up each clip on the ring. Watch out that front clip as it under flat.
Thank you again, however I need to reiterate that I understand how to get that part out, but it is the part that the ring is fitted to that I need to remove from the car to gain access and remove the switch.
Once you get the boot up with the ring attached to it. You should be able to reach and push up on the plug to pop it out of the hole. It has two metal tabs, one on each side that need pressed in to pop it out of the console with the plug and wire harness.
Thanks, will have another go, last time I couldn't squeeze my fingers in there. The photo in post #9 above indicates that the whole mounting part lifts off, but gives no details of how to do that.

Take this screw out
Then pull outwards on the sides like this to Pop clips out the. The whole plastic piece should come off.
They lifter the whole center console on an 02' MINI , early design MINI have a center console like this below , button was in the front positioning towards the toggle bank area, in 7/2004 the TPMS button is on the side and further back in the console, as the console is longer. Diagrams linked below to take both types apart.
I suspect the switch or the wiring/plug, as I cannot get the flashing yellow light to go out as it should. I have in the past been able to do this, so don't have a problem understanding the procedure.
The ABS sensors are OK according to local garage diagnostics, and there are no other warning lights. This happened when I changed to my winter wheels this year, an annual thing that generally just needs the TPMS reset after checking the tyre pressures of course.
Just hope the mice in my garage haven't eaten through a wire or something. The little blighters have in the past chewed under bonnet insulation and foam etc.
The MC is a 2002 model, had it since new. Intend to run it into the ground, great car and longest I have ever had a vehicle.
Success! It was the switch that was not plugged into the connector at all.
I should have realised, as it wasn't illuminated when the car lights were on. (good test).
I also noticed signs that some careless mechanic had been in there, as the screw head that holds the casing on was under the plastic casing rather than on top of it. So whoever had been in to adjust the handbrake or something had taken the connector off the switch and not put it back on again. I really despair, you can't trust anyone but yourself to take care.
Anyway thank you again for all the help, it saved me a lot of money not having to take it to a garage who would probably have tried all the wrong things like ABS sensors before proclaiming I need a new computer or something! Very nice to have to drive with the yellow flashing warning light on the dashboard.
Hi,
Long time lurker here and this is my first post.
These links are dead and the wiring diagrams on BMW Planet are broken images, does anyone else have the wiring diagrams for the TPMS button and module? I have a flashing warning light that refuses to reset. Forgot to mention I have a 2001 - early production Mini that was originally sold in Germany, but currently resides in the UK.
Any help?
Thanks.
Can help with wiring diagram, but as I had the same problem, and the cure was to find that the switch was unplugged at the switch end of the wiring, because some mechanic had disconnected it when doing something else, can I ask if you have checked for that?
Also is your reset button illuminated when the lights are on? Mine wasn't when the switch was unplugged, a big clue.
